For a long while I have been using MPM to sync my T68 with my desktop PC with a serial cable without problems.

Now, I got an IBM T30 laptop with Bluetooth capabilities. I installed the ericsson software (r4aPackage4) but couldn't get it to work. I read all the Bluetooth HOW-TOs on this forum to no avail. Then I realise that the problem was not bluetooth, but MPM. Even if I connect my old serial cable to my new laptop I can't get MPM to recognise the phone (I am familiar with the COM port setting in MPM, so that is not the problem).

Now I had a hunch that MPM wasn't running at all! So I went to Phone Monitor Options and ticked "Always display the icon" for the Phone Monitor taskbar icon. Guess what? The icon didn't appear. This was getting interesting. I went back to my desktop and checked which program was displaying the taskbar icon. It was EPMWORKER.EXE that is in the Ericsson MPM folder. Great! So I started epmworker.exe on my laptop and got a telephone icon on the taskbar with a red cross on top. I assume that indicates that MPM is not running. Is this correct?

Searching the forums here I got the tip to uninstall the ericsson suite, reboot, re-install, reboot. Unfortunately that didn't help.

Any ideas?
How can I tell if MPM is really running? (MPM per se, not the taskbar icon)

Thanks in advance,
