I have got the above phone on the 3 network, good phone but I hate the way 3 have locked the phone, I can't change any of the network settings as one feature is really bugging me.

The Globe icon remains on at anytime and from what I remember of my old S700i that meant a data connection is active, surely enough when you select Planet 3 button the 3 web page is up in a flash where as my Nokia 6680 connects to the service first.

There is an optrion in Connectivity menu to Close Connection but it doies not close the connection, this is concerning me because I fear the battery will drain quicker than is necessary.

Does anyone know how to make it connect to the data network only when a connection is required, again my 6680 has this option to stay connected or connect when required.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Just unbrand it here: http://www.wotanserver.com/

I have swedish 3 and did just that, you'll have the real phone afterwards and you'll still be able to use Planet3 (after som manual tinkering though).

I have looked at this site, do you just send a paypal email to the address and get a login?

If I debrand the phone do I not break the terms of my warranty and will the phone update from the SE website as my last S700i I debranded after contract term of course had to have the CDA key amended.

Yes, you just send the money to them and you'll get an email reply with password. This process took about 15 minutes for me.

I cannot confirm that the update service will work afterwards but from reading their forums i think it will.

I cant help with the unbranding but i can confirm that if the phone is unbranded (i had a K800i one on 3 but now on O2) you can switch the 3G off and the globe does only come on when needed. also the 3G icon goes away.
Im not sure if 3 would like you to switch 3G off, i read something last year about them fining people who had used a program on their 6680 to force it to stay on 2.5G but i have done it for the past week without any problems. in fact my k800 battery life is extenended a bit more
I also notice that 2.5G (i assume its O2) gets a stronger signal where i work than 3G

do you lose all your settings and files when you de-brand?
