Hello, I wouldnt mind asking a couple questions on o2 3G.

I have a Sony Ericsson K800i sim free, I use my old Genie sim card in it (o2 online sim, 300 text and 1MB GPRS a month free pay as you go)

I have just had a USIM delivered and im having my number and credit transfered to the USIM.

I was wanting to ask, with o2 3G, is i-mode o2's word for 3G or is i-mode any different to 3G? Also, would you need any different settings for UTMS or are o2's GPRS and MMS settings the exact same?

i mode is a seperate internet portal, not connected to 3G and is only available on selected i mode compatible handsets. not the k800

i-mode is that dodgy flashing java style web pages isnt it? I remember viewing some i-mode sites years ago.

So what can I expect with a o2 USIM? has it got UTMS? Thats suposed to be faster than normal GPRS isnt it?

Also, will the internet and MMS settings be different with a USIM or the same?

hey toney, you wont need any different settings in your phone, everything will be exactly the same as before but it'll be faster (providing you have coverage of course, which you can check here http://www.webmap.o2.co.uk/ )

I phoned O2 yesterday afternoon to have my number transferred on to my 3G sim. He told me he would call me back when it was done.

1 hour later it was done.

Good work!

Basically what I was told was that I would gradually start losing signal and then wrong IMEI would appear on my phone screen. When I see that I should put the new USIM inisde and switch my phone off checking ever couple hours if its working by switching it on.

Well its 14:30 nothing different yet.

I have moved over to Orange 3G as O2 dont support email on payg phones - according to their technical department.

Orange say it will take 5 days.

Slightly off topic.... If I top up on my new Orange number, will that credit still be there when my old O2 number is transferred over onto my new Orange sim?

I did do my best to stay with O2 but I wanted to be able to email from my phone and also MMS blog pictures to an email address (operas blog site).

This wasn't supported unfortunately, although they did try their best.

goldenface they do tell customers pop3 is for contract only but it does work on pay as you go.

Listen to this, a o2 tech support bloke by the name of George gave me the settings. I got a new phone and forgot what the pop3 settings were so I rang o2 again. This was about 6 months later. A different tech support bloke was adament that pop3 is only for contract so I said "well not long ago George who works in you're department gave me them so whats the problem?" He said theres no George in his department, I continued to argue with him and basically at the end he said I shouldnt really be doing this but these are the settings and he told me what they were!

Bloody idiots they are - they just want you to take out a contract.

Would you suggest then that I should ring them up and ask when are they going to transfer my number as you said it was done for you in an hour?

Just rang o2, spoke to another chap. He said it hasnt been actioned yet. He said he will action it now and it should be done in an hour and to basically wait until my current sim fails befor eputting in my new USIM.

He sounded very fed up, not plesent speaking to customer service like that. Hope its done anyway.
