Got a bit of an issue with the way that my K800i organises the music and wondered if this problem might be considered a bug, I'll try and explain but bear with me as it's tricky explaining this without demonstrating it on the phone.....

Basically I've transferred a load of music albums onto the phones memory card which all contain the relevant metadata, album name, artist and running order. The albums consist of some by a single artist and others which are compilations. The problem I'm finding is playing these albums on the phone in the correct running order.

Firstly I follow this path on the media players menu system:

Artists>(SELECT SINGLE ARTIST)>(SELECT ALBUM NAME)

If it's an album by a single artist then all well and good and the album starts playing from the first track in the correct running order. However if it's an artist from a compilation album and then you select the album name then the media player will only play that single track. Now that is sort of logical but I'm thinking, "How do I play a whole compilation album?".

So next I follow this path:

Artists>All>(SELECT ALBUM NAME)>(SELECT ALBUM TRACK)

When I follow this path when I get to the list of album tracks contained on the album they're listed in the correct running order HOWEVER when I select the first track on the listing the player doesn't play it but begins playing what ever track name would be alphabetically first for that album. Same, for example, if I clicked the fourth track in the correctly listed running order, the player ignores my selection and plays the fourth alphabetically correct track for that album and then continues playing the album according to the alphabetical order of the titles.

Really, to appreciate what I'm talking about you need to have a fiddle and then all will become clear. From my view point I'm either a bit of an idiot and missing something OR this organisation of correctlly loaded files is badly implemented and also a bit random. As it stands, unless I create playlists for each album, I have no way of playing any compilation album in the correct order (not good for mix albums) and to play albums by a single artist in the correct order I have to seive through all the single track listings from all the albums I have on the phone.

Any thoughts or can others replicate this issue or provide guidance for a frustrated user. I'm using a Vodafone branded phone.

Cheers

Nathan

PS: Sorry for the convoluted explanation but it fairly tricky explaining this issue.

Fully understand the question as I have that problem as well on O2 phone. Unfortunately I do not know the answer...

Create a playlist for each compilation.

That's more of a work-around to an problem and a rather in-elegant solution. Granted, that's what I'll do in the short term but think that the in-consistencies in the way the K800i handles the music files suggests it may be a bug.

The playlist also suffers from the alphabetically play order problem. Also, you cannot manually order a playlist. You can sort it, alphabetically or by date though.

Hi, perhaps I'm reading it wrong but if not then hopefully I can help.

Are you tracks named artist/title, or do you have the track number in the file name?
Also, do you have the track number in the ID3 Tag?

Hopefully a couple of pointers for you to look at!
Have a look at some of the photo's on my site, they can be quite good (no adult content!)

Try and rename the tracks on your compilation albums with 1, 2, 3 etc. at the beginning and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the advice, however, all the tracks file names for each album are prefixed with the relevant number (01, 02, 03 etc.) which correlates with that albums running order. Also all the ID3 data seems present and correct (all the tracks have originally been imported via iTunes).

It's a bit of a mystery really and quite an annoying "quirk" of the media player. Any other thoughts anyone?
