Where is the 903 from ?

Bit more info would be helpful...

UK 903's can be unlocked by Vodafone if you pay them the fee for doing it.

Some people over at Howardforums seem to have all of the kit for unlocking and re-flashing, but that would cost too.

Some of the latest Japanese models are not so easy to unlock and still give problems with re-provisioning etc even when they are unlocked. A Japanese firmware unlocked 903 will have severe limitations for use outside of Japan...

go to China town in London for example.

The 903 CAN be unlocked, and they'll also flash it with HongKong firmware since it's basically unbranded.

thanks marktang,

yes, I know. Many phones are JDM only and only work in Japan. So they become a useful paperweight when bought for overseas use.

Contracts in Japan for mobiles have also been tightened up as have the ways to buy pre-pay phones.

But I will still enjoy looking.

Even ones that can be unlocked, have their security upgraded when a new batch is manufactured.

'Standard' Japanese phones do not have email setups that are user friendly. i.e you got to get it setup in the shop. No IMAP or POP stuff!

I use a Vodafone 802se, but it is useless for email, just can't be done in the UK, but ok for text messages. I can send text messages to Japanese friends with Vodafone phones.

But there are some new Windows mobile devices being released there, for example, a Japanese model of the TyTn.

This is my ninth trip !
