PAC (moving from Voda to O2) confused by possible 'loophole' please help |

I am with Vodafone. My minimum contract term runs out on 17 August 2006. I want to keep my number, and move it to a new contract with O2. So I phoned Voda to ask for my pac code. They said to write and request it, they would then give the pac to me. They said it would expire if not used within 30 days, but as soon as it was used on O2, my account with Voda would end. Here is where I am confused: If I use it before my minimum contract term comes to an end, my account would close. They said I could use it before my minimum contract term is up, but surely I would be in breach if I did so!? They said it was a 'loophole'. Are they right? It just doesn't make sense to me. I don't want to breach the contract, but would be happy to port my number to O2 as soon as possible.
Any advice, input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
EDIT: I just thought, If I use the PAC with O2 before my minimum contract term with Voda is up, will Voda then be happy to let this happen, but then charge me some type of buy-out/penalty 'fee' for ending the contract before it expires?

I am guessing that with Voda you pay monthly in advance as I do with O2. Therefore you have paid for your final Months rental already.
If you port your number to O2 you should not incur any penalties, all you should receive from voda is your final bill detailing any call charges up to the date of port.

P.S. You may or may not know this but a number cannot be ported with the mobile switched on! On your port date swap your sims over and leave your phone switched off. just turn it on occasionally to check if you get O2 on your screen, if it says searching or unavailable etc for a while the prot has not gone through so switch your phone back off and wait for an hour or so and check again.

Sooteee, Thanks very much.
In fact, I don't pay in advance. My payment is taken by Direct Debit at the end of the month. I'm just convinced (knowing how Vodafone operates), that they'll come up with some sort of charge if I port my number before the end of the minimum contract term.
Not quite sure what to do now...

All they can charge you for is any call charges and Line rental to the end of your contract term. As this is only 1 month you should only have 1 line rental and charges to the end of your contract term.
I'd give the CS team a call at Voda to confirm that but I know that is how O2 operate as I used to work for them.
I still think that as per most contracts you pay your line rental up front and call charges in arrears, check that with them too.
On your very first voda bill they normally ask for 2 months line rental out of your bank, 1 from the time they switch you on to the bill date and the other to put you ahead of yourself for line rental. If you still have your first bill or can access it online check it.
Either way you will not have much in the way of end of contract charges to cough up!
