Risk in Software Upgrading |

seeing ppl upgrading software successfully really made me curious of what the SE technocial told me, he said that there are risks in upgrading software where writting a software into a sophisticated phone like t68i is not as simple as changing software for any nokia phones. He said that if something bad happened where the rom of the phone is spoiled during upgrading process then the phone will be done and is totally impossible to be repaired. My phone has no warranty and i was planning to upgrade my software to R5D, currently using R2B025, no problem at all but im feeling itchy when all of you comment about R5D's improvements. So anybody here actually encountered what the technician told me or is the probability of this situation happening extremely small?

sure... there is a chance that something happens during flash so the update fails... but often it's fixed by flashing it again.. |

is it really possible to flash it again? coz that technician said until it is like end of days when the phone's rom is dead. i do not dare to assume that it is not, however i have been flashing sl45 to sl45i n then sl6688i for several times without having any problems, if t68i is really that sophisticated it shouldnt lose to sl45.......in durability
upgrading software only cost USD13 over here in malaysia. the problem is whether it is worth to risk.

yes it is... often when a flash fails it's either due to low battery, or a dirty systemconnector... cleaning the connector and making sure you have enough battery power and restart the flash... |

if the service point mess it up you have the right to get a new phone!

like i said, warranty is gone, now im all on my own, if anything happen im dead. im just wondering is it really worth to risk to upgrade the software when my warranty period is over. SE is like launching new SW every month, like nokia launching new phones...........it is even said that the next software that will be alunched in november will support sms tone change and mayb polyphonic ring tone which i think it is impossible. btw what tools does a SE service point usually use?

Besides cleaning the connectors, make sure that you don't have any corrosion on your connectors. You have to check it from the inside. I've seen many T68's with corrosion on the connectors.

heh......im not the one who is gonna upgrade the phone......how can i tell the condition of the flash cable used? I think if i tell the technician bout this n that he would just gimme a kick on my @$$

You might want to consider the complexity of the job.
The Siemens "official-leaked" style flashes are very straightforward and "one-button" stands. Just click start, quickly press power on button for bootstrap to load. No need for address ranges, no need for complex settings, just the phone and a cable (and a charged battery, lol)
However i have never had the misfortune of a siemens phone dying on me. I have no idea if the daemon (in my terms) for the phone would be still "alive" in order to "reflash" the phone.. As you know opening up a SL45 is a real pain in the ass.
Comparatively, For Nokia phones, you have ROM versions to take note of, address ranges, bla bla bla, and a never ending list. Of course nokia software is more "feature-laden" to an extent due to the "complexity" of the proceedure.
I'm still on the lookout for a pure FULL T68i flash. Anybody have any ideas? Meant for FIRMWARE-LESS T68i's. NO firmware in system AT ALL  |
