Is it possible to install the USB drivers only for a SE phone without installing the SonyEricsson PC suite? The Pc suite seems to take over most of the communication channels on the PC, so that it is no longer to connect a phone of another brand over bluetooth for example. I have a Motorola phone at work, which I also want to synchronize, but the phone monitor refuses to free the bluetooth and USB port.

yes, you could install necessary usb drivers for s.e. phones without installing the pc suite.... if you have installed the pc suite on your pc, try uninstalling it, be sure you have the pc suite cd for future use, after uninstalling it, try to connect your s.e. phone, your pc would find it as a new hardware and would search for drivers, install the necessary drivers on your cd, if ask for installing the pc suite, just ignore..... thats it!!! hopefully i help you.....

I found a solution myself: Throw away the CD and download the latest version of the PC suite from sonyericsson. When you unzip the file, there is one file called "Install these drivers before installing PC suite.exe".
Run it.

Voilá!

Now I have actually tried this on a computer. After having installed the drivers and attached the USB cable to the phone, there will pop up a really lot of "Found new hardware" messages. You should select to search for the drivers at a specified location. At the first stages, select the location where the drivers were installed, "c:\\program files\\SonyEricvsson\\K800 drivers" or something similar but at the second half, when it finds the hardware "memory stick", you should specify c:\\windows\\inf instead, when it does not find the drivers in the other location. When all hardware has been found, two new drives will appear in the drive list, one for the phone and one for the memory stick, when the phone is set to memory mode. Be careful to choose the correct drive. The contents on the root directory of each drive can give some hint about which is which. When finished, click on one of the drive icons and select "Eject".

I seem to be having a similar issue with my Sony K750i phone. I had everything running and have carried out serveral updates to my phone. Last week my PC crashed and needed a full restore, when it came to reinstalling my sony K750i software I had problems.

It loaded all the software great until it came to the sony ericson usb memory stick software, it just kept saying can find software. So I followed the last instructions on this thread, great it found it, now I'm getting a silly message that the device can't be started code 10.

Need I say the memory card will not show either via the PC My Computer icon, or via my in my favourite software MyPhoneExplorer.

I can access everything else like the phones internal memory, all my contacts etc etc but no memory stick.

Has anyone any idea what I'm doing wrong ? Thank you.

You dont say what OS you are using. If its XP and you,ve had a crash serious enough to format and reinstall you got big problems with some software your using. Try un-installing your sony pc-suite. Reboot. Install again. Reboot. Go to device manager and search your list for the phone expanding any trees as required. If you find any big yellow question marks your missing drivers. Put your disc back in but dont let it try to re-install, just close the window it opens. Right click your yellow question mark and select 'Update Driver'. When prompted select the drive with the disc in as the location of the drivers and let them install. Reboot. Connect phone and all should be well, ignore any setup wizard that may appear. Hope this works.

Actually, I did an uninstall, then a system restore to a restore point that was two weeks before I bought the k800. Then, when I opened "My documents" in the explorer, I got the message "Please Wait while SonyEricsson File manager is being installed"! Is the SE communication suite some kind of virus, or what? I clicked "cancel" in the dialog, and it has not appeared again. I have not dared to install the entire communication suite again (not the one from SE's web site either) and curently, I only use the Bluetooth connection, which seems to work fine, when I double-click the k800 icon in "My Bluetooth places", I see two folders, "Phone Memory" and "Memory Stick", and they seem to contain what they are supposed to. It's a much slower connection than the USB though, that one works too, as I mentioned in my previous post. When connecting the USB cable, I get two new drives in the explorer.

If U just want to mother your phones via bluetooth U dont need the sony drivers. If your bluetooth instalation was like mine U need to install bluetooth software without the dongle in!! then shutdown. Put your dongle in with computer off and then restart. Once up and running open your device manager and install the bluetooth drivers separately from the bluetooth disc. Reboot. When u open your bluetooth software u should be able to mother any phone to it, motorola, sony whatever. Tho it may be wise to uninstall the bluetooth and reboot before reinstalling.

I use the bluetooth connection only on most of the computers I use, but since the USB cable provies a very much fastr connection, which is especially noticeable if you try to fill or copy a 512M or 1G memory stick, and the DCU-60 cable came woth my phone, I really want to be able to use it, but without SE's crappy software.

Sorry operating system is XP, you're right, the automatic hardware wizard just will not install any drivers (Did before the crash and restore), but if I tell it where to find the drivers then bingo.

You have all made one man very happy, I now have a PC that connects to my phone........back in business......YES

Many thanks to everyone that writes into and read these forums.
