Stopping Witheld calls |

Hi,
I was wondering if any o2, or any UK networks offered any block on Witheld calls that are made by people who think there funny when they call and hang up?
We have had a new service put on our homephone,
which if someone calls our landline which is witheld they don't get through, the operator simply says "Sorry This Person does not accept Witheld calls" LOL
I think it's good service it costs something like £2 per month on top of you Landline bill and it's used with Telewest
Does anyone know if Mobile Operators do this service as of yet? and how much is it if it's available????

I'm afraid I can't offer you a solution. However, I just wanted to voice my experience with regard to your home solution. I hope you realise that you are effectively cutting yourself off from calls from practically any office in the U.K. (because a call coming from behind a switchboard will show up as "witheld"). Additionally, calls made to your number from abroad will show up as "witheld" (or "not known"), and will also be blocked.
The only reason I'm pointing this out, is that I have experienced the irritating "Sorry This Person does not accept Witheld calls" on numerous occasions when telephoning clients from my office. They want to be kept up-to-date on transactions, but decide to install an idiotic screening method, thus causing my office to loose valuable time in contacting them by other means.
If you have no interest in being contacted by ANY companies in the UK, then please disregard my the above, and I wish you a nice day.
Additionally, if you want a blocking service for witheld numbers, because you are receiving unwanted calls, I would suggest that you make a log including the exact timing of the calls. Report it to you service provider, and they might be able to track and block the offending number.

it depends..
withlheld numbers on my phone come up as "withheld" whereas calls from my old dears work and calls fronm abroad come through as "anoymous"
so i know what ones to pick up and those to not pick up

A good point regarding your difficulties in contacting clients. The problem I have is that if your office phone exchange is not displaying your number, then thats the fault of your office lines. To say that phone exchanges can't display numbers due to masking is simply incorrect. Most office can but WONT display caller ID out of choice but many offices are now rectifying this due to so many people not accepting calls, so based on that, BT's new system is a great idea. Heres hoping it will be integrated in more countries!

If you're happy that only people with contacts on your phone will phone
it .... create a group that has ALL contacts, then set the profile(s) to accept
calls from list and put the group in the list.
My wife's on the transplant waiting list so during the night I only want calls
from the hospital - did the above and now it's a peaceful night

Mobile phone networks are really rackt of for things like this,
I hope they will introduce this Blocking techique that Telewest have eventually, witheld calls do my headin, sometimes it's stupid mobile networks trying to get you to have a contract with them
having 1471 is ideal for me on my 02 contract,
it's a good way to know whos called yeah....
and when people ring yeah when it's withheld it just says as what fatreg said, it just gets anoying not knowing who they are.
