I have just received My K800 which is a upgrade from my K750.

I also have a Nokia N80.

When I play the Mp4 Videos on the K800, It only sees them as music files.
The N80 Plays them.

I have converted the files to the correct screen settings but again the K800 will not play the mp4 files as Videos only sounds.

I have checked the white papers for the phone and it is listed as playing mp4's as videos and songs. So why cant the phone do this?

Any Ideas.

The phone is generic K800

Thanks All

k800i does play mpeg 4. But the file format must be 3gp. You can encode 3gp files in quicktime, and use h.263 or mpeg 4 compression (choose within 3gp encoding option) for k800i. I think the 3gp mpeg 4 file format is the only format that you can used to encode QVGA videos playable on the phone.

Make sure that resolution of the resulting video is 320*240 and bitrate near 500k.

Cheers for all the above. I am using the nokia Media Studio to change from mpeg to mp4, However what settings i choose the phone will either see the video but come up with video play back failed, or see it as a song.

I have now coverted the mpeg vids into 3gp and the phone sees them fine.

My the fault is still there.

Some of my mp4s please, and not all.

I use the nokia n80 video function and this says in mp4 quality which is so far better the k800 which is a shame. I recorded a 10mb video and the K800 played it back, but converting mpeg into mp4 and the phone doesnt.

Strange.

and come on k800, please can we have a better video recorder. the n80 is so much better., but the camera is so poor.

Oh well i cant have it all.

I encoded a couple of MP4's that work ok. I use software that is intended to convert video for Ipod but they work perfectly on my K800i (well they did until it died). I encoded a couple using PSP software but they only played the audio as the phone thought it was a music file. The problem I found was with the audio codong.

I managed to do a recode from DVD format to MP4 using Nero7 (NeroDigital is MP4). First time I tried, it didn't work. I got the K800i fooled into thinking it had an MP3 on board. As soon as I recoded and changed the resolution to 320x240, it worked perfectly. I did 3 files this way with no problems.

Now I can't manage to repeat the exercise. I'm trying to source from different formats including DVD and AVI. I have played with resolutions but get nothing.

I have the O2 "Casino Royale" version of the K800i which comes with the trailer for the Bond movie. That is in MP4 with AAC audio codec and works perfectly.

I have just tried recoding to MP4 and removing the audio (source audio is mp3) to see if that may be fooling it. The phone says it's an MP4 file but doesn't recognise it as anything it can play. Only option is "Send".

If anyone else has any ideas, I would welcome any thoughts. I know it can be done, even using Nero as I've done it but can't remember how!

if it has the send option, it means that the file is in an unsupported format.

You're right. But I have now resolved the issue.

In Nero Recode, there is an option to select the "Nero Digital Profile". I hadn't seen this before as it's hidden and you need to select the "More" button to reveal it. I guess I must've found it when I first got this working but forgotten about it since.

Anyway, the important thing is that this has options to select the type of device you are coding for. When you select iPod or other portable device, it removes "audio #2" and "subtitle" tabs from the target file. After encoding everything runs sweet as a nut!

So the I would suggest the key is to make sure when recoding to MP4 that you ensure you do not include any additional audio or subtitle tracks, even if they are left blank. How you do this will obviously vary from software to software.

I hope this is clear and helps someone, 'cos it was really beginning to bug me
