It's part of the (RED) campaign ( http://www.joinred.com/red.asp ). If you buy the phone, a part of the purchase price will go towards combatting AIDS, and a proportion of your call costs will go to the same cause. (RED) does independant work, but much of the funding will be overseen by The Global Fund ( http://www.theglobalfund.org/en/ ) in the form of grants to distribute funds.
