Hello all

I've been recoding DVDs for my K750 using Nero Recode 2 CE, downloaded from Softpedia, for a month now, and have been very happy with it. I'm about to get a K800, and so was going to recode some of my videos to QVGA, with a higher bit-rate. Now Recode is telling me that the Nero MPEG-4 codec has expired "owing to patent restrictions", and it won't let me run the application.

I'm unclear about this. Is it only the AVC element which is patented, and, if so, why can I not continue to use Recode for non-AVC encoding, as I was doing before for K750 recoding?

Can anyone help me? I'm now stuck without a video encoder, and am back to square one.

Thanks

Tom

To my knowledge Nero Recode CE is not freeware as sometimes refered to, but only demoware. It does expire after 30 days.

If you wish to use Nero Recode, I advice uninstalling Recode CE and download the full Nero 7 Premium package, which includes latest version of Recode, and tons of other great features at a very reasonable cost. 59,99 Euro for an online serialnumber, including all feature updates.

You should then be able to use the full Nero 7 package (including Recode) as demo for the next month or so, while you consider your options.

Try M3 made by mysh here on the forum. It's the best converter app of all that I have tried and the latest version added some very nice features like x264 codec and subtitle support.

Look here for my little comparison between WinAVI and M3.
