Problem with Java applications? |

Sorry, i posted this in the software forum, but because that forum is almost inactive, i got no reply.
My question is, whenever i am running an applicaiton that requires GPRS, shouldnt it keep the connection running all the time when its running? On my phone it automatically disconnects it after a small period of inactivity, and then it reconnects when required. Unfortunatly, that kind of activity costs me a lot! So, is there anyway to keep the GPRS connection active all the time when the application is running?
My friend's K750 doesnt have this problem. And I have the latest firmware. |

Quiet unheard of! Should not.. but then I hardly use beyond Opera or Inbuit Browser and one app that updates Currency Exchange rates (releavnt to this problem)... Perhaps try what @jeet mentions.. Maybe he means- tweaking it from 'wap' mode to 'HTML' mode (maybe also the Proxy & Port settings to go with it).. But frankly am just shooting in the dark, It could be handset specfic & having played with it for just couple of minutes, I wouldnt know much..

I just went to my GPRS settings, and there was an option, internet mode:WAP or HTML. Whats the difference b/w these two? |

@QVGA- Look I know that fortune favors the brave n stuff.. But in my case I knew y I did it & knew tht solved my issue.. Bt fr u.. Dunno.. I got better connectivity (& less signal drops), support for larger (than wat my Providers' terms mentioned) file d/loads.. after choosing HTML, enabling Proxy & changing Port address.. But that wasa knwn hack told off the record by an young executive at their shoppie.. So I had taken a safer chance..

The application is Opera Mini, eMSN, Ultra IM, QuickIM. Basically all internet using applications.
My internet mode is HTML, switching it to WAP greatly slows the browsing speed.
The operator my friend uses is on WAP mode. I wonder if that makes a difference.

I use an instant message app called mxit and if i minimise it and just leave it, i still get all my messages, even if my phones locked and in my pocket while the app is running.
It could be that you losing gprs signal regularly. |

Nokia has a function under connection settings that says..Keep alive constant or only when needed..Also a setting that allows you to determine connection time until it automatically times out.Is this simple function not available on the w800, or whatever phone it maybe?

In the Flight Mode in aircraft thread to you posted 'I doubt if India has aviation' or sumin like that, wat use? . . ..@QVGA- Yes Opera 1.2 (duno if tis Legit version) does in the Ext. settings hav the 'Shadow Connect' under Stay Connected.. Thou that still doesnt address the basic issue.. So did you use Yours in 'Wap' mode ever? and did it work rite then?
