I picked up my K800i on Saturday from phones4u and went with Vodafone again. Really wanted to keep stop the clock, and voda have the best coverage for my area.
Anyhoo, the branding, it really is nothing to worry about!
As you can see from the pic above the only cosmetic difference is the word 'vodafone' instead of 'cybershot' just below the screen, and also the start/end call buttons are green and red, which I actually prefer over the standard black ones! The rear of the phone is all standard.
As for the menu systems, once you change your theme, start up screens, wallpaper ect ect the branding is very much out of the way, unless having an icon taking you to vodafone live is a major life issue!
Also, from various messing about and testing with mine so far everything functions as it should, there was a problem before with voda software disabling features like mp3's as ringtones but that is NOT a problem this time.

these pics with the red vodaphone icons and the regular icons = are these taken from the same phone?
if so, did vodaphone resort to using flash themes to change the icons for the red vodaphone theme?

Nope they are not taken from the same phone. When you change theme, you cannot change the icons on the vodafone branded k800i |
