Hi,

I am looking for economic mobile phones in India(Pune) with following features --

----
NO - camera
NO - mp3/video player

Dual/Triband atleast
MMS support - doesn't matter
FM - Not required, but doesn't matter

YES - phone's ability to be used as modem to browse internet from PC

YES - EDGE, atleast class 6
YES - GPRS, atleast class 8

WAP & on phone browser - doesn't matter, if it doesn't effect phone's capability to be used as modem.

UMTS - welcome, but doesn't matter.
-----

Can you tell me what models are available from you in India (Pune) that match these specific requirement.

Thanks
Sandeep

I dont know if its available in India, but maybe a Nokia 6021 could be your solution. And what is economic for you, which price range?

Economic means around 6000 INR (i.e. 120 USD @ 50 USD/INR) . I had purchased a Nokia 3120 couple of days back, but that doesn't support modem functionality, neither on Linux nor on Windows; that's why I have to look for another model from any company with needed features.

This Nokia 6021 costs 6,189.01 INR in my country. I think it suites your needs perfectly. No camera, it has IrDA and BT, triband GSM, EDGE.

Nokia 6021 is available for INR 5700 (Bill). See www.indiagsm.com for most up-to-date prices for it.

Thanks for telling about indiagsm site, so far I was getting rough price idea from esato.com phone listing. My brief net search has shown mixed reviews about 6021 - mostly about the speaker and sound quality. Is it worth investing in 6021 after 3120 not serving the purpose?

6021 has Edge, GPRS-10, Bluetooth and IR support, so looks like an option that can serve well for some years, with changing technology.

3120 is not bad, but it doesn't have the GPRS modem feature. I personally liked the model. Any idea what would be it's resale value, I bought it on 10th june 2006, but hardly used it. In less than 3 days after buying it, I knew from airtel folks that it won't work as GPRS modem and since then I have been looking for finding hopes on net if it can work as modem and/or selling it w/o big loss. For my day-to-day phone usage I already have sturdy 3350 giving me company happily for almost 4 years now.

@sandeep: If you purchased it from a showroom, most showrooms have a 10 day return/exchange policy. Otherwise ebay.in is your best bet. List it as a new/unopened phone.

3120 has GPRS modem, but its class 4 GPRS. So you know you got damn slow speed. Check out
http://mobile.softpedia.com/phones/...okia-3120.shtml

But don't know about 3120 modem driver, nokia stops its GPRS modem driver on PC Suite.

BTW 6021 will be perfwct for your needs.
it supports Class 10 GPRS , but class 6 EDGE, which will be support max. of 177.6 kbps. But originally you you may get max. of 8-9Kbps.

Debu, I didn't purchase it from Nokia showroom, but small nokia related shop, and in any case it is more than 10 days. The shopkeepers and other people whom I happened to meet in real life suggested price of 2000-2500 and 3200-3300 respectively, even when it was a week old. Now it will be much worse - even though I am not using the phone, but time has passed. Do you think I will get a good deal for it on ebay, when packaged piece is available in market around 4000.
