Faulty Fast Port |

I have just sent my W800 away for repair because the Fast Port is faulty. i.e. When I connect the headphones/handsfree cable sometimes it is not recognised and I have to remove it and attach it several times before it is detected. Wiggling the fast port seems to have some effect on whether it will or wont happen. So I suspect a dry joint or lose connection inside the phone. I've tried a different set of headphones with the same result and can't duplicate the problem on someone else’s phone with my headphones - so I know it's my phone.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had problems with their Fast Port? If so I would like to know what action SE took to repair it. I'm hoping they replace the phone as I don't really like the idea of some untrained apprentice opening my phone and soldering what is probably a faulty connection and then send me back a squeaky and dusty phone.

My K750i is starting to suffer the same problem, but its well over a year old now and i expect some sort of mechanical failures to start appearing.
I think its just the contacts wearing out from daily connection of the charger or handsfree.

Happened to my W800i a little more than a month after purchase. I had the port replaced from an SE service centre then, but after about a week, I experienced the problem again.
DCU-60 cable, HPM-70, MXE-60, even the charger sometimes . . . I need to reconnect them several times before I get a good connection with the port. My MPS-60 has yet to fail me on this. |

Happened to me - I cleaned the contacts with a Q-tip and some contact cleaner fluid and it's like new. I think it's just dirt/oxidization. |

The contacts should not rust. Its a problem to the customers.

Did you update to latest firmware ?
I've found that some firmwares suffered greatly with connection problems exactly as described, and was quite convinced that it was hardware related, but since updating to the 2 latest firmwares on my K750, connection has been rocksolid using exact same phone, cables and everything.
So before sending away for hardware service make sure you have latest firmware installed.

Not a firmware issue - it's hardware stuff. My fone gives me the same headaches as well.
BUT HEY...........it's not just fastport. Isn't this problem typical of all /// and handsets? Well, ///A3610, T610, T630, K700, K750 - all the handsets i used had this peculiar problem - of loose charger port/headset port.

Never had any issues like this on any of my many many S//E phones.
Untill the fast port connection problem during a couple of firmwares from R1A008
I assure you that its not only hardware but also firmware related
Like I said, after installing the latest firmware on my K750 all connection problem are completely and utterly gone, using the exact same cables. I can no longer make it loose connection even If I try to by wiggeling the cable, while 2 firmwares back I had a hard time keeping connection and had to wiggle the cable constantly.
The same pattern of behaviour on the same firmwares on all my 3 different K750's
naturally dirty contacts can give similar beviour but If you insist that its only hardware related then you are completely overlooking the logical and obvious indications in my post.

Just clean the contact points on both phone and accessory. Most of the time it's just dirt or dust. The fastport is more sensitive to this.
I had this problem in the first week I had the phone (over a year ago now). It sometimes wouldn't recognise the headset. Once I cleaned the headset prongs the problems vanished never to be seen again.
I recommend a light cleaning alcohol (pure isopropanol). Or you could use those lens and spectacle cleaning cloths. |

Thanks to all for the replys. To start off - I thought it was a firmware issue as I had been playing around with FAR a fair bit - only minor changes though. So, I did a master reset. The same prob was still there. So I upgraded the F/W via SEUS and master reset twice - no improvement. Plus, I always backup everything I change in FAR and even when all original changes are restored the same problem is there. Note: I've been on R1BC for some months now and never had any issues with hooking up the headphones. The whole thing is that this seems to have come on all of the sudden yesterday. So my thinking is that one of the fastboard connectors on the motherboard may have come loose. This could be quite possible considedering I do plug and unplug the headphones at least twice a day and use the usb port rather frequently. Also, my contacts are sqeaky clean. I tested my headphones on a mechanics phone (lots of grease and junk in the fastport) with no issue. Hence I'm thinking hardware - It will be interesting to see what I get bake from the repairs dept. |
