Hey all... Now i dont know if anyone is, but if anyone is interested in architecture or general building design.. or simply likes to chat about buidlings, use this thread to do so
You'd kinda being doing me a favour as i read alot about buildings but am always on teh look out for fresh ideas and opinions.... I wil post a few pics when i can and maybe anyone interested would like to give their views (now i hear everyone yawning) so i will make sure teh buildings in question are as 'interesting' as i can at first
But basically any views are welcome - good or bad
I had teh idea for this when i was flicking through the AJ magazines this morning in work saw soem reeally cool designs and thought i wonder what people think of them..
To kick start this one off we have the 'Dancing Dubai Towers' by Zaha Hadid:
This image is of Zaha Hadid's competition-wining Business Bay project in Dubai. Its a 500,000m2 design which features three intertwined skyscrapers.. It was named the 'Dancing Towers' by Zaha herself whcih sits on a circular island site in teh heart of the business bay district. The water side skyscrapers will house appartments, a hotel, and office space and will be 'stiched' ino their surroundings by two new bridges and an elongated park to teh east.
Zaha Hadid's website: http://www.zaha-hadid.com
the websites quite cool too (when you actually work out how to use it )
An views peeps... to me its quite a elegant building... i thin shes done well with this one, especially considering its location... Dubai - i mean, theres so much happening there, its appears to be an architects heaven to work
Oh, before i forget - i also had another reason behind posting this thread... if anyone has pics of any buildings, share tehm here, i will also share mine and have many of beautiful buildings such as teh Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, MAny in Paris. not so many in Amsterdam (got slightly side tracked)
etc..
I know this is a mobile forum - totally respect that, but from chatting to a few peeps her, I hope one thread will be ok
and from what ive read on this bulilding completion date is approx. 2010
Personally i reckon this would be a engineers nightmare... maybe im wrong

im gonna side track this already but why are all the good buildings in Dubai?
i still think this is one of the best building ive ever seen
the idea is the Burj Al Arab (the sail) is a boat and the jumeriah Beach hotel is a wave... looks amazing from ground level and both hotels are the schnizz..

its agood question mate
Reality (in my mind) is that when a place (dubai in this instance) starts to develop.. money gets flooded there - ie alot of gov. schemes with 'free' money to develop is invested.. Take for example Singapore, even Berlin..... When a bit of money gets invested and publicity is gained then people tend to go crazy and jump on teh 'band wagon'...
Im sure thers a lot more reasons out there, thats just my intial thoughts
Why do you think people are investing there bud? |

I think its because dubi has become a large attraction to those with quite allot of money, and is becoming the place to go. This means that lots of people want to go, which shows theres a large market lots of peoplw want money so investors invest in such places as it will get them money. think about it, the place has got a 1 mile indoor ski slope
Check out my sales I am a mac fanboy . I will honor Laffens gift of P990 flip free avartar, but I sold the p990 |

i think its maily to do with the fact that its at the heart of the world basically.. ie it takes the sameish amount of time to get there from here as it does from japan.
its also got a fook off port that again has access to all sea routes.. i think it might become the new constatinople..
There has always been loadsa money there matey... the UAE is something silly like the 3rd highest country per capita in the world... there are 3 types of people in the UAE from what i've seen! 1) ex-pats 2) locals that are stinking rich 3) foreign nationals namely sri lankan/pakistani
I could be wrong but i've been there enough time to see the people!
hopefully going again in October to good ol Abu Dhabi much nicer than Dubai! but turning into a holiday destination! not what i wanted.
@ luke, i see your point but a lot of these things were built way before the place even became popular, Dubai creek has been there for time.. as has "City Centre" shopping centre. its a shame though as some of the smaller places have had to shut, i used to go to Lamcys on the way into Dubai but its no longer there! i think if thehy dont keep a hold of it, its going to turn into New York or somewhere..

i think what youre saying is pretty right there both luke and fatreg, with regard to Burj Al Arab - i know the pic you showed is simply a drawing - but still look in teh distance... gives you a lil prespective of what 'was' there before... and if im right teh 'sail' was one of teh first most influencial buildings designed and built in dubai - what started this 'build rush' as far as i can see...
Id love to go there, especially i'd love to see the Burj Dubai in construction |

there wasnt much to see when i last went lee matey. was all boarded up and guarded against any kind of photos etc..
hopefully this time when i go it will be above board hight!!
its strange as they have the whole desert to play about with.. i remember when i first went to Dubai Hard Rock Cafe was way way way out of town.. and now its life right slap bang in the middle.. but the place hasnt moved.. everything around it has just grown and expanded..

yeah exactly, i think in a few years time its going to be completely unrecognizable. which is a shame but its the way of the world i guess... the funny thing about Dubai is you never really get to see a Mosque, which for a Muslim country i really diont get... you go to any of the other 6 emirates and they are full of mosques but not Dubai!
while were on the subject of mosques, check out the grand mosque in Abu Dhabi lee.. going to be one of the biggest mosques in the world...
