Hi,

An unlocked phone is a phone which can be used on ANY network. EG: when you buy a handset from Vodafone, its locked so that it will only accept Vodafone sim cards.

Firmware is software that allows an electronic device to work. Similar to an operating system on a PC. All phones have firmware in order to operate. People update firmware to the latest version so that there phone will work more efficiently. Sonyericsson.com provides this service as long as you have a data cable to connect your phone to your PC

Mp3's are for music and MP4's are from Videos although some people use Mp4's purely for music as the file size can be smaller. Your K700i will only play Mp3's as ringtones.

Hope that helps...

1 - an unlocked phone is simply a unit that can be used with any sim. more often than not, subsided units from operators are locked, that is, you can't use a sim card from another operator

2 - the phone's firmware of your phone works the same as Windows of on IBMs (or the MacOS if youre with Apple). For most new models that are just released, bugs in the firmware abound (e.g. the torch LED starts blinking wildly when you try to take a picture) and the manufacturer (in this case, ) addresses these bugs by providing software updates. For phones, this is done by downloading a mightly little, idiot-proof program called SEUS.

3 - just as you can find bigger apples than pears, MP3 can be smaller than MP4 in file size. If they're the same size, however, you can be almost sure the MP4/M4A file will have better fidelity. And yes, you can use them on your K700.

I'm not sure about the idea of putting a mini encyclopedia/glossary around here (that's what wikipedia is for); perhaps laffen is the best person to ask. I hope that helps.

if putting the phone on silent mode doesn't do it then your stuck, you'll need to use some other method such as mentioned in the Things you can do to your phone with the FAR Manager. thread and then look at the FAR plugin for internal file system access using DCU-60! thread for more detail

btw, we have answers for most common questions like that
