Thinking about buying a SE w810...
Can you use a mp3 as a sms signal and maybe as a alarm signal too?

Yes you can

Sorry i will elaborate...

Go to the selected file (do not do it in profile settings), select 'more', then 'use as' then you get drop down menu with options you can use the mp3 for. i.e. ringing tome sms alert etc.

For alarm you set this when in the menu options for the alarm

I use a very loud fog horn mp3 for my alarm and it wakes me up quite well in the morning.
