Recoding anamorphic widescreen DVDs |

Hello all
I've been using Nero Recode CE and Spawn's tutorial at spawnweb.dk to recode DVDs for my K750i. This has worked fantastically. However, I've come up against my first anamorphic widescreen DVD, and am tying my brain in knots to try to work out what settigns I should use in Nero to get full-screen, non-distorted output on my phone.
Anyone have any guidance on this?
Thanks

Hi Tom
It depends on the aspect ratio of the movie and if you need to crop out any black bars top or buttom. Widescreen can be several aspect ratios.
Load the dvd in recode, and look under the infotab to see aspect ratio, its called display.
Then goto video, cropsettings, custom crop and tell me how many pixels you have to crop out of the top and the buttom, if any.

Hi Numb
Thanks for the reply. The video is 16:9 Wide, 720x576, according to Nero, and there are only a slight black bar of 4 pixels which needs to be cropped.

then you should be able to get full screen playback at 176x144 pixels with correct aspect ratio, if you crop out a total of approx 202 pixels from the sides. Try cropping 100 from the left and 102 from the right side, Nero should then automatically select 176x144 under the resize tab for videosettings.

Excellent. Many thanks. Can I ask how you worked that out, since I'll probably come across other sizes of black bar in the future.
Cheers

Update
Did some more calculations and more precisely you should crop out a total of 220 pixels (110 pixels from each side)
Formula is something like this:
Correction of resolution 720x576 because of aspect ratio 16/9 means
720/16*9=405
Subtract what you crop from top/buttom 4 pixels = 405-4=401
Round that down to 400 then calculate using aspect ratio 1.25
400*1.25=500
Now subtract that from original width 720-500=220
We can never get 100% pixelprecision because the screen of k750 propably doesnt have 100% 1:1 pixelmapping. But using above formula for widescreen content will get you very very close.
