I am looking to upgrade from my K700i to either the k750i or the w810i and while searching through the boards, it seems that the k750's camera cover is the weakness of the phone.

What do you all think?

My k700 seems "bullet proof" as I have had the phone for almost 2 years and it has been dropped twice on concrete, chewed on by my 1 year old daughter and kicked as it feel out of my hands while jogging then skidded across the street - the phone never even hiccuped.

I really want to upgrade to the K750i but the jump would seem safer to the W810i (less moving parts).

btw: my first post, yea for newbies...
Till all are won.t300-k700i-?

Welcome to Esato!

Well, in my experience, the K750 seems pretty good, but it does lead to many squeaks throughout he phone. The W810's build quality is much better though. And if you did have a choice between the K750 and the W810, go for the W810. K750 + W800 = W810 - lens cover. The W810 is better than the K750.

if you can wait a bit, hold off buying the w810 and wait for the k800/790 to come out. its release could spur a price drop for the w810 or if money isn't too much of a worry, you could even consider getting one of those newer models.

the cover is not a weakness. It is strong, doesn't get caught on things, protects the camera and the switch mechanism is durable and long lasting.

It also provides a way to turn on the camera without unlocking the phone.

It can sometimes open when you're in a call(by the action of your hands, ofcourse) and also when putting it in a tight jeans or pants.

I find sometimes I accidentally open the cover when pulling the phone out from my jeans pocket - but it never opens when putting it in which is more important. Other than the odd squeek, it's been absolutely fine, and it takes a fair beating.

yes but you will hear about problems in a phone shop because any one with a problem will go back there first. That doesn't mean that the cover is a problem. If you go to the beach you see sand, that doesn't mean the land everywhere is covered in sand.

@max - Looks like a tongue-twister back there huh ., . . but my point is, if the K750 doesn't have a BAD cam cover that eventually results to its defectiveness . . . how come I see this problem in the shops again and again and again whereas not even 1 with that of the W800i or K600i - rotating circular cover, or with any other camfone models that has a cover on it in that manner . . . Dunno, but all I can say is I've never seen a failed k750 cover. My bro-in-law, one of the hardest on equipment I've ever seen, his slider works fine. He doesn't case his phone, just drops it in his pocket. No cover problems, no dust problems, no squeeking problems. The phone is scratched to buggery but it works flawlessly.

Of course the k600/w800 cover is a more durable design (as it is recessed) however it is also more fiddly to operate. If a person takes just a small amount of care with their camera cover it will last forever, however it is more vulnurable than K600 so if you are going to see problems with covers due to harsh treatment - then it will be the K750 cover.

However I wouldn't say this means it's a weak link - the cover is durable but not unbreakable. The w800 is a more durable cover yes, but in terms of functionality I far prefer the K750. And with a little care you need never have a problem with K750 cover.

my K750 cam cover never fails me... ive got 2 wrecking drops of about 3-4ft high... usually facing down... i guess its an advantage. and still auto focus is in good shape... and the cam lens never budged. good.. so its NOT a weakness.
