Stay away from HBH-610a |

I just returned from a SE service center in Singapore with some sad news.
Here is a story. I got a new 610a two weeks ago paired with my phone and everything was looking good. After that I paired the headset with my notebook. so far so good again. After that it tried to use the headset with the phone and...the phone won't connect to the headset. I repaired the headset with the phone, but now my notebook cannot connect with a Security error.
I took the headset to the service center, they told me that they upgraded the software and now everything is OK.
Nope it wasn't OK. Several people from the SE service staff were trying to pair the headset with different phones and were able to reproduce the problem. They also tried several HBH-610a headset and all them showed the same problem.
So now they are going to send an enquiry to the head office and wait for their recommendations.
But the bottom line that the current 610a's (at least the ones selling in Singapore) cannot be used with more than one device, unless you repair the headset.
Screw you SE | |

That has been known for awhile, that you can pair with only one device. bt version 1.2. I don^t know if 2.0 edr fixes that.

I have an HBH-662 with Bluetooth 1.2 and I can pair it with multiple devices no problem. I don't have to re-pair when I switch devices. I was thinking about getting the HBH-610a since it has Bluetooth 2.0 like my M600i. But, if you have to re-pair every time you switch devices that sucks! Please tell me this isn't true. |

I've HBH-608 and it doesn't have such problem. I tried HBH-610 and it worked too. Seems like only HBH-610A headsets are affected. |

It's true. In the service center they tested several different HBH-610a sets with different phones SE's and not-SE's ones. |

BTW, does any one know what exactly the difference is between the HBH-610 and HBH-610a, other than the appearance? And, if the HBH-662 can support multiple devices with out re-pairing and the HBH-610a can't, what about all the other models? |

Looking at the FAQ's on SE's support site, this is what I have determined. First of all it looks like all of the older headsets didn't support pairing with multiple devices. There was a transition though, for example, between the HBH-660 which doesn't and HBH-662 which does. I know for a fact the HBH-662 can do it because I have one. For the rest, I used the following question and answer in the FAQ for each phone to determine whether it supported this feature or not.
Supports pairing with multiple devices:
Is it possible to use the Bluetooth Headset with several phones?
You can pair the Bluetooth Headset with more than one phone, but you can connect and use the headset with only one phone at a time.
Doesn't support pairing with multiple devices:
Is it possible to use the Bluetooth Headset with several phones?
You can pair the Bluetooth Headset with more than one phone, but you can connect and use the headset with only one phone at a time. Each time you swap phones, you will have to pair the phone and headset again.
The HBH-DS970 is a special case. It looks like it supports multiple devices but only one phone:
What's the difference between multipoint and single point mode?
Single point means your headset is connected to only one source, your phone, and uses it both for calls and for music. Multipoint means that your device is connected to several (up to ten) devices, with one used for calls and the others for music.
Here is a listing of my findings:
HBH-PV705: Yes.
HBH-GV435: No - according to one user.
HBH-DS970: Looks like only one phone at a time. In single point mode, only the phone and it's for both calls & music. In multi-point mode the phone is only for calls - no music and other devices are music only.
HBH-IV835: Yes.
HBH-610a: No - same as HBH-610.
HBH-PV700: Yes.
HBH-610: No.
HBH-608: Yes.
HBH-662: Yes.
HBH-660: No.
So, for the new devices, it looks like the HBH-610/a is one of the only ones that doesn't support this feature. Although I would probably also say the HBH-DS970 doesn't either since although it can support multiple devices, it can only support one phone. I like to use my headset with multiple phones which it apparently couldn't handle. In mean time, I think will keep my HBH-662. But, I wanted to get a headset that supports Bluetooth 2.0. At this point the only viable choice looks to be the HBH-IV835. But, I'm just not sure about the way it stays in your ear. I'm used to the hook over the top of the ear which basically all of the headsets I've had so far have used which is why the HBH-610a would have been my first choice. But, sadly, it can only pair with one device.
