walkie talkie phones? |

just had a week in NY and saw a lot of people rocking some kind of mobile phone come walkie talkie
even has the same blip as my motorola walkie talkies, what are these all about?
don't quite understand how they work or what they are! |

In all latest phone (especially nokia) there is Push to talk button? what is it for????

for USA market most likelly.
Why do you need to talk every 5 minutes if u have walkie talkie?
Why not talking every now and than when u feel like it.
And BTW... why do u hate americans? All of them? Sounds stupid to me to hate all of them. Do u know all of them or what? |

even cingular now is having ptt available.
they plan on everyone having it, but its not going to happen

I was in New York in Febuary and LOADS of ppl had these, do they work or the network or only short range (3 km) like other walkie talkies?

work over the network.
orange have a imilar thing in the Uk called talk now.

@p900 they work over network, OR there is a setting on a few of the newer models, where if for some reason u dont have service, or for whatever reason, u cna switch to another channel, and they work up to 6 miles off the network.
if you think they are popular in NY... go down south... everyone has them. |

Almost expected that reply. One of the reasons i have read for it not showing up in norway, where im from, was that the providers can not agree on costs when a message have to pass from one to the other.
