W810i 3G Software? |
hairytea Joined: May 10, 2006 Posts: 164 PM |
I took my wife to the vodafone shop and got her a shiny new W900 phone with 3g software.
The guy in the shop had the same phone and explained to her that the phone had 3G software and showed her the live streaming television.
I perked up and said i have the W810i and asked whether it also had 3G software. He said yes that my phone is definately got 3G enabled but couldn't tell me if it is capable of live TV streaming as with the W900i.
Does anyone here know the answer to this?
Can my W810i also watch streaming TV as it is also 3G compatible?
If so what software do i need to download to enable this? |

Yes you can, but not as fast as 3G phones with a strong edge signal you can watch or listen to live streaming |

the w810 doesnt support 3G, it supports edge which is gprs but a lickle bit faster, but not as fast as 3g. dont know who if anyone supports edge in the uk.
3g is not a 'software' thing anyway
orange/voda chaps are talking lies.

thanks guys.
shocking,
just phoned Orange again and got put from person to person, managed to speak to three people and not one of them had even heard of edge let alone know whether orange supports it.
no go there then.

hmmm.....edge is a 3g technology, i can see that different people are getting confused here. no you cannot view mobile tv on your handset. edge creates a faster download/upload rate than gprs, but the fact that to watch the mobile tv, you need umts 3g because it enables the use of ip addresses (? i think sooooooo)....and therefore, its only UMTS and HSDPA that will support mobile tv, HSDPA is still in development, but it will probably be available in 2yrs or so...there is testing going on in Newbury, BERKSHIRE at vodafone's HQ to what i believe...i wish i worked there...hmmm....thinking of a job...i'll try go there lol!

EDIT - yes, orange do support edge, infact they were the first UK network to support it, i don't know how good there coverage of the UK is yet though. may just be limited to central london and a few other places at the moment. i don't know which other operators have edge on there network.

Am getting mixed results here...so you either can or can't watch live TV if edge is available?
Little more confused now than i was before lol.
EDIT - just done some web searching and it appears i can infact use this mobile and receive live TV via Orange UK:-

yes, you can recieve mobile tv via orange, but the fact that the w810i is an edge enabled phone rather than a umts enabled phone, means that the technology is not there to make it possible for you to watch the streaming tv on your handset.

EDIT - even if the software that you sent me a link to, does work on an edge enabled mobile phone, this would mean that you would be paying a hell of alot in bandwidth charges (wap charge), which if its anything like vodafone's charging system, you'll be bankcrupt before you see anything lol! hmmm...i dunno whether orange do there own mobile tv, they must do don't they?
