I've just purchased the W810i. I have Mac OS X 10.4.6, iTunes 6.0.4.

When I copy mp3/m4a files to the phones MP3 folder, some of them don't appear in the walkman software, even though i can see them in the phone's File Browser!

It's a very intermittent bug. Some times they'll all appear, then I'll switch the phone off & on and all but 30 will be gone, etc. Then i'll come back to the phone 10 minutes later and 100 more appear. Then i'll connect and disconnect to the Mac and they'll disappear again. It's driving me CRAZY!

I only bought this phone for the Walkman software, and at this rate it's going back if I can't find a fix soon. Granted, I know Disc2Phone is PC only, but I SHOULD be able to just drag files manually to the MP3 folder.

I have software version CXC1250316 R4CE012 000000. The phone says I have the latest version.

This bug happens whether I copy the files manually, or use the various iTunes hacks available, such as Dreamsicle or iTunesMyWalkman.

Please help!

Thanks

it's not a bug. it's actually the phone reindexing the files on the card. it happens everytime you connect it with a computer; when you put in more files onto the card; when you switch the phone off and then back on; etc. basically, any additions/deletions you make on the card. the bigger the card and the more files you have in the card, the longer it takes to reindex. just give it some time and it'll show you all your songs in the walkman

Can you tell me if your W810i displays m4a files correctly or not?

There was a bug with old firmware where the song listings in albums would be displayed back to front (ie last song first) if you used m4a but NOT if you used Mp3.

Could you let me know if that bug has been fixed now?

Thanks!

Sorry but apparently those bugs are still here.

I've just checked it myself.

In Artist/Album view, m4a files ARE displayed back to front, but worse than that, mp3 files are listed ALPHABETICALLY!

Can anybody else verify this?

This is VERY poor for a 'MUSIC' phone.

machiavell1: yes, i've observed that as well even with my w550. as you can try this trick:

go to the source folder of the M4A files, switch to "Details" view, sort your files by name in descending order, then anchoring on the first file (should be the one that starts with a Z, or if you have track numbers, the 99 file) drag and drop everything to your MP3 folder. this would result to the M4As being displayed on the phone in the reverse order (ascending) in which they were put on the phone. (i would actually painstakingly do this for every album in the folder system)

markpaterson: no i, together with 90% of the rest of the esato community, don't think it's a poor music phone just because of these major bugs as you claim them to be

Thanks Axilom. Such a pain! I would have thought they would address this in newer firmware.

I hope w850i does a better job with this!

First of all. I love the W810i. I was just a little wound up when I said it was a poor music phone. I was expecting it to work like my iPod (eg- songs appearing in the menus instantly). There's a few bugs that need ironing out, and clearly they're in the walkman software, and not the phone itself. I've had a K750i before for a long time before that. I know the w810 isn't much of an upgrade from the K750 but I just love the small size, and its STILL the best camera phone, so walkman features on top of that sold it for me.

When you talk about "Switching to Detail View", where do you do this? Do you mean in the Disc2Phone software? Because I am using a Mac. If you mean on the phone itself, then where exactly. Sorry for the dumb question but I am new to the walkman software.

markpaterson: nah no offense taken from this end. i'm not exactly sure how it works with macs, but the trick here is to put the files on the phone in the reverse order of how you want them to appear in the walkman. sort them by name in descending order, select everything, drag the selection via the first item in the list and drop them all onto the card

** ipods work with fixed flash memory/hard disks that read information faster than removable memory/MSDs. that should explain why it takes a while before the phone picks up on changes to the card
