W850, W700, W550 and many more phones lose its Auto Focus feature. Why? |

Because they are all phones, auto-focus is for the cybershot models like K800 |

And the reason why the 800/900 had Autofocus was because didn't have enough imaging handsets on the market, just the K750 and it needed more. |

JJ: goldenface already answered that. the w810 is an exception, even when it was released after some AF-less phones, as it's positioned as the replacement of the w800, which had AF

AF is a moving part and therefore has a relatively high cost.
The advantage is limited with these types of cameras. So they have to balance the price with the features for each part of the market the phones are directed to. |

W phones are for music and have a nonAF camera (excepting w800, w810)
K phones are for pictures and have AF but don't have the integrated W feature
that's why i think w810 and the w800 are superbe ... they have both |

I think the w810 and w900i are gems because they may infact be the last phones with Autofocus on them.

The only reason I will not buy a w850 is the lack of autofocus camera. Why separate phones into walkman, cybershot, business... phones when we could easily have everything in one phone? Not a clever move from SE in my opinion, some people, like me, will start to think about other manufacturers who make more complete phones. |

my first good phone was W800,i chose it because of it's features.I am sad because SE announced that they are going on two different brands, walkman and K series. Now my question is : If there is enough tehnology to make a phone that will have all in it,like huge internal memory, huge screen, great sound, excellent camera and so on,oh and symbian,WHY DO WE NEED DIFFERENT BRANDS?? Why don't SE do like nokia, make for those who want a phone packed with all the best and then different phones with less options for those who don't need them. And don't tell me "Go for a P990" because i don't want a phone with UIQ and that looks like a brick, and LOL it hasn't been released yet and it is already outdated (only 2 megapixel camera).Sorry SE,if you don't change your mind,I'll guess my next phone will be a Nokia, just like a saw here on esato that one guy said something like "Everything we are expecting or we want in a SE we already have it in a Nokia".Dissapointed |

If we can buy the AF unit for about £15 (ebay), then i'm sure it cost's SE much less, and considering we're talking about handsets in the ~£300 range (sim free), the i don't really think cost is the reason. Annoyingly they do just seem to be trying to make us fit into one category. Heaven forbid that we might like music AND taking decent pictures. I think they've just lost the plot... |
