Last time o2 offered me an upgrade the guy was trying to give me some nokia that had "push to talk" as if it was a good feature. i guess he forgot to mention that i wouldn't have been able to use it anyway... needless to say, i didn't go for the nokia anyway.

It's actually really cheap. About 95c a day in Australia, with a maximum of 150 minutes a month. That's about .37 pounds.

Vodafone NZ has unlimited pushes for NZ$19.95 (UKP6.68) per month IF you have an account (not PAYG).

You'd need a PTT compatible phone such as Z710 / W710 and so would the people you want to use it with. Because of that, PTT is being pushed mainly as a business service and therefore uptake (outside of the US) is slow.

Also, it seems PTT is mainly a CDMA network service. GSM networks are less enthusiastic, dunno why?

I don't have a PTT phone for that reason. It's hard enough getting people I know to use PXT.

Picture Text or PXT for short.
Adding a Picture to your Text message. On VFNZ it costs the same to PXT or TXT (NZ$0.20c) but people assume it's still 50 cents as it used to be.

Ptt can work over any network gprs full internet(not wap) connection. You just need a smartphone and an apllication like agile messenger or visual communicator. It works great most of time, but sometimes it cuts your sentences. I suppose the thing you are talking here about is the standard version of Ptt for all phones that support it.
