T630 eating up pre-paid cards |

I bought a T630 as a backup phone for my wife. The problem is, even if she doesn't use it, it consumes prepaid credits. For instance, if I load it today with P100, after just a few days, it will be down to P10. I just kept the phone locked up in my office drawer when I did the tests. At first, I thought it was maybe the SIM. But the problem persists even with a new SIM.
I have tried master reset and I did not configure any data connectivity accounts. If I leave the phone on top of the TV, you can hear and see that the T630 is sending out a call on its own. (I get the usual GSM interference and the "takatak-takatak" sound from the TV).
I tried the SE Update Service but it claims that it is using the latest firmware.
Was there an issue similar to this before? We have been SE users since the T68i. Now, I use a K750i while my wife the K700. This is the first time I've encountered this.
Thanks

The sounds could be caused by normal network update instead of originating phone calls. The credits might be used by some other services registered.

I've figured as much.. only, GSM beacons or "updates" usually only lasts for 5 or so seconds. On this phone, it will go on like a minute or so.... continuously. |

I've disabled Java apps from accessing the GPRS. There aren't any data accounts anyway. Nevertheless, I checked it out and nothing seems to be out of place.
The internet button still works... it's not stuck. |

Is the phone new and did a simcard come with the phone? If so, it sound like your wifes phone may have been subscribed to a mobile entertainment serivces before you brought it.
These services automatically which will charge you anything between £3-6 per month to continue to use their services without you even knowing. Network providers really can't do anything regarding services from "3rd parties" and can only find out the company details from the short code and give you their customer service number for you to ring up and request that your mobile number to be removed and barred from thier services.
If you don't know the pass history of the previous owner of the phone, try contacting the network provider and see if the techinical enginners can do diagonitic tests to find the cause of your problem.
Hope this helps,

No, the phone is not new. Also, the SIM has since then been replaced. I think the the problem is inherent with the phone, not the SIM. We've tried two different SIM packs with virtually the same results.
What I did out of curiosity was to install my own SIM (post-paid plan) from 6AM til 12PM today. Hopefully, I can get more details when my bill comes out. I know it's crude, but it's the only thing I can think of right now. Calling the provider tech support and asking their help in troubleshooting a phone I never bought from them is like asking a monkey for his banana. |
