before i tell u whats this all about, let me tell u a short story:
the following idea, support, help ( or call how u just want it to ) hitted my mind, when i was informed, that the 4 servers of esato are really not that cheap to manage. now a days ca 1000 ( ! ) euro in a month, depending on up- and downloads and the amount will be more, when more pix etc will be uploaded here in the next future and/or more features will make our stay here more comforteable and colorful. imo its time, that we support laffen, on a certain way...
ESS:
the trader forum on esato is free for everyone, there is no comission just as on gaybay etc, on esato was never askde for money donation for the site etc, esato is FREE to get infos, datas, support, buy and sell...
NOW, its time that WE do something for esato, the site has done for us more then enough in the last years...
i would like to ask the traders, members here, to donate an accesoire, a fone, actually anything u just can or want to, once in a month, every third month, whenever and the money u would get for it, transer to esato bank account. listen, esato is worth for it! i mean, we have so many brilliant and high respected members here, among us are so many great traders, how eran money on esato, the members here get tons of informations here for FREE, so come on and lets support esato, more the servers costs...
i ll make my first donation soon public, if u are with me, if esati is on the same way important for u, just as for me, then honour esato with your cooperation. its NOT a must of course, nobody is forced to do it, nobody will be judged if she/he doesnt take apart in this action, BUT mind my words:
we are siting here day by day, we ll are served on a very nigh level of support, esato l**k our a** almost according the infos, datas, buying and selling products ( me, u and many others earn good money sometimes, with more or less win )... imo its really not that hard, to offer a bit of it for esato. its in our interest, that the servers are working ok. its our second home, so lets manage it together.
hope, that many others will support me ( more esato ) and think of my words, when u buy or sell in the next future, when u find here the seeked info or when u just come here to browse.
thx for your attention,
regards, boba

That's not what I was trying to get at. I was just trying to say, I thought esato didn't need donations, Just wondering what they would be used for.

imo its clear enough...
nobody is forced to do it, but imo we could support esato at least with it...

I guess I didn't read it clear enough, so it would be to fund new servers

@boba
I wouldn't mind donating £5 but whats the difference between donating money and purchasing a couple of ringtones or a game? |

Esato used to take donations, a list of donors can be found here But it was stopped a while back - before i even joined, i think. Its a good idea Boba, we do gain a lot from Esato, but to suggest that we're giving nothing in return at the moment is maybe a little overboard! Isn't it the members who make a place? We all contribute, in our own way.
If such a scheme were to be set up, i'd be glad to donate something, yeah

The very fact that the donation scheme was dropped suggests to me that laffen is making plenty of money to keep esato going. I mean he wouldn't be doing it if it didn't even make enough money to pay for itself.
And the members give this site the very thing that keeps it going - infomation! without the members esato would be nothing. So although i greatly appreciate the fact that laffen provides the place for this information and discussion to take place saying that we give nothing in return is not really true. Basically i think things work quite nicely the way they are.
If laffen was to turn around and say that he is loosing loads of money running esato ro he needs money for a new sever he can't afford or whatever then i obviously would gladly chip in. But i am just not sure that laffen or esato needs or wants any money from it's members at the moment. Although the idea behind this thread is noble in it's intentions.

It is a good idea. Has Laffen been consulted about this as he might not want or need donations.

then on that note i agree with both tom and KK... There points are valid and if money is needed i too would be happy to chip in (but not to sound rude), i give to charity on a regular basis and will continue too, i think they may need the money more...
But again as tom also said, it is a nobble idea and very good of you boba!
Nice thought
p.s. in saying that id still give to esato along with charitys but just feel if there is no real need for this then money could maybe be better spent? |

A couple of years ago i brought back the "Esato closing" thread where laffen said he would need donations or else the site would close (back in the begining of 2003).
When i revived it, masseur informed that Esato is going well and no donations were needed. And if they were we would be informed.
So, don't worry, i think laffen is going ok with Esato.
[EDIT]
The original RIP Esato thread
[EDIT II]
My own topic about the financial update:
Remember the "RIP Esato" thread. (Situation now?)

The question is not, if laffen or esato needs money or not, my thought is more to share on this way the costs, i learned sg important in my life, nothing is for free in it. We always pay on a certain way for everything, the rule of sg for sg is, what imo would be great. If at least some costs could be shared, way more features and up-downloads would be possible.

How the hell will you give him something if he doesn't accept it? (or at least doesn't tell you how to do it...)

Esato supporters
Esato is an independent Web Site with focus on Sony Ericsson products and solutions. We are not endorsed by Sony Ericsson and are providing all our services for free to the end user.
Running such a large site with more than 50.000 visitors per day requires both human and financial resources. We once accepted donations to keep the site alive, but that was in the past.
