Iv done this. You need to have:

A Aux input on ur hifi

Then buy a cable not sure what it is its just a standard 3.5mm jack at 1 end and a black and red at the other.

Then conect the 3.5mm jack to the green hole at the back fo the PC and the red and black to the hifi.

Then when u want to listen to music make sure ur hifi is set to the Aux option

The lead is a 3.5mm stereo jack to twin phono lead. The phono ends can be red and black or red and white.

yep jc has it right. I too am thinking about doing a similar thing, its either that or sell my 200w sony system...

What I want to to is: hook up my xbox thorugh my sound system along with my tvtuner, and then connect both to my new monitor o and then connect my pc up to the sound system, it effectivly means I need 6 phono inputs which I dont have, any suggestions for a input thingy?
Check out my sales

i do this but i must warn you, you get alot of distorted signals.... (it crackles alot) i kdont personally think its all that good for your system... unless you buy a live drive for a soundblaster card or something...... that way you could hook up optical or with a coaxial cable.....

yes the problem is that there is one socket for each speaker yet the cable has wire for stereo. is there any way to set the pc to put stereo sound through one socket? [addsig]

do you mean the one 3.5mm jack that links to your pc?

because a 2.5mm jack (only one) provides a two channel output (look closely at the 3.5mm jack it has two halfs and top and bottom... anyway, go into sound in your control panel and there should be a setting there for your poutput..... one speaker, two speakers, 5 speakers etc...... i if im correct i think... its in advanced i think in teh audio tab......

yea i do mean that, the problem im seeing is that the pc speakers i was using before have one green port at the top that led to the the speaker with volume controls etc on it and a pink one to the other. the green port is above the pink one on the back of the pc. i dont know if that tells you anything?
iv now set the sound up to surround sound though which is all good!
