SE finally has the money to make itself a great force in mobiles, and it is doing it by making many more phones!
Now with the recent influx of phones, variations of different phones, i.e. Z330/W530 Z710/W710, and building up on the portfolio, do you think that this is the year for SE's rise to the top (so to speak)?

No,
Nokia will remain no. 1.
It is not enough to make few more phones to become no.1.
Not even no. 2.
Samsung is releasing 3 phones/week...

well its clear are striving to improve each year, and certainly they are addressing the needs and wants of the people by providing the different form factors and target buyers

It will be some years yet though before they are competing sales-wise with the big boys but for features, style, appeal and that certain je ne sais quoi, well they're pretty much already there!

every yr is a SE year since 2003 hehehe

because they always come out with at least one product which have the WOW factor.

2003 - T610
2004 - K700/S700
2005 - K750/W800
2006 - K800

To me....other brand just look plain...even Samsung win some iF award....their design is just look so similar.

I think this year SE wants to clear the stock of outdated components such as 1.3 MP and 2.0 MP camera, etc. That's why SE put the stress on producing low and mid end phones. Not a single smart phone has reached the market! And people are waiting endlessly for the shipping of P 990 that now has turned outdated. Surely, SE can not compete with other manufacturers with non smartphones. There are only 7 months left before the year end and I don't think that SE can ship adequate number of smart phones.

I don't think it was very about SE not having the money or capital to invest in phones. I think in the past SE took a different approach in producing mobile phones. Now they are producing more phones and also doing a nokia in providing more choice for the customer which is in no way bad. By SE having a larger product range they can satisfy more of the market thus making more £££. I still think SE have a long way to go if they want to become number 1.

I think SE will do ok with the k800 but sales will fall with the new walkman phones. They have removed autofocus, people arnt happy with th enew card format and yet again they fail to inplement decent video capture. Most SE fans will say video isnt important to them but once oyu have a phone with CIF recirding or high in your phone its hard to go back to qcif.

I really don't care if they're not Number 1 as long as they make the best phones.

I dont expect the k800 to do as well as the k750 not even close. The w850 will do quite well, especially in bringing new customers, might lose some w800 owners due to the missing AF (like me).

I agree 101%.
Who cares if they're number one. As long as they make the best phones, make a profit from it and remain in business.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I Nokia N95 8GB and N82

The K800 arrives in a month or so, the W850 will be out at the end of Q3 (September), which I know is odd but that's marketing for you!

I think SE were already showing signs of leading the way with the T68 in 2001 and the T68i in 2002. The P800 was also pretty groundbreaking, even if the look of it was a bit toy-town.

/Agree

making the best phones = #1 in my book.

Anyways rather be the one to have the unique cool phone, then the same boring Nokia

but it's sad that SE's following the Nokia route by segregating phone features.

*sniffling*

(still lamenting over the lack of AF on the W850... yeah, yeah: "why don't you get a K800 instead? ... well why did they put AF on the first walkman phones if they're gonna take it away in the end anyway? whatever happened to convergence?)

No its Nokia's year.
I dont know how far SE expects to go with variations of the K750.
K750,W800,W810 and now some slider with pretty much the same specs as well.
The Nokia N91 and N93 triump over the K800 in my opinion.

nope. more phones doesn't mean much.
SE is still quite poor when it comes to logistics.
meeting special consumer demands
and lanching phones in time and on time
With Ericsson and Nokia gone: we must keep their spirits alive and buy JOLLA or YOTA
