8800 with 101 problems! |

Ok guys, bascially I tried changing the housing on my 8800 and now it has a bunch of things wrong I'm assuming I wrecked a ribbon or something, if any of you know what it is please let me know!
1st problem - It displays a "Car" or "Headset" symbol on the screen, these alternate everytime the phone is turned on/off, and I have no idea why, it's not plugged into anything!
2nd problem - It wont charge, everytime I plug in the charger it says "Not Charging"
3rd problem - The speaker doesn't work... it's completely silent, everytime I want to talk I have to put it on loudspeaker.
Now i'm hoping I have only damaged one cable, i've changed the housing on this phone a fair few times, only this time I remember it getting jammed towards the bottom, and like an idiot I forced it
Any help would be great!

I don't know what part of the housing you changed.
The speaker is built into the old fascia and CANNOT be changed.
I do not know what you could have done though since changing the fascia is as simple as changing a few screws and sliding parts out.

Yep I know the housing switch is REALLY Simple, like I said i've done it a bunch of times before and it's gone smoothly. Ok I didn't know the speaker was built into the housing, I thought it was the the one towards the top right of the screen? Or it that the loudspeaker?
Ok Maybe I don't have one in this housing (a speaker) So i'll open it up in a sec, check, if not i'll get one!
Any Idea on the other probs?
Cheers btw

Just opened it...
Heres a pic of what I thought to be the speaker (top right).
And heres the inside of the housing.

Ok I think I may have found the problem...
If you bend back the ribbon and motherboard(?) on the back as shown below:
And then look at the Orange ribbon (on the right in his picture):
If you look closely there should be one or two small connector things, as you can see from my pic I only have one and it's hanging off... you think this could be it?
Cheers

I'm thinking this could be airgun pellet related!
Assuming this is the phone you decided to use as target practice, I suspect one of those shots damaged those connectors/chips.
As for the speaker, it looks like it's missing? Looks like there should be something there to me, though I've never had an 8800 apart (by the fact I have never owned one!)

Lol no this isn't the 8800 I shot, I have a few of them (as you can expect I go through a fair few lol)
As for the speaker thing whe I searched 8800 speaker on ebay I got this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NOKIA-3[....]eNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
And as you can see that's present in the picture. I think i'll buy a new ribbon for the bottom, what you guys think?
Cause all of these problems developed from that one time I changed the housing, and this ribbon did get jemmed somehow.

I think you may have indeed found the problem.
If you are going to buy a ribbon anyway, try taking a tiny bit of foil and placing it in that area so that its touch properly then switch it on.
As for the speaker. I'm sorry I was thinking about the mic, since the mic is built into the plastic.
I wish I could help, but I'm a hands on person.

@JJ The covers are REALLY simple to change, then the thing is the one that was on the phone had a big dent in it (hi a table edge when in my pocket) and this was on the bottom bit, so when i tried pulling it off it was pulling the ribbon part too as the dent was pressed against it.
@Amnesia lol you've taken some apart I know, and if you check the bit that's messed up on my pic, the things about 2mm small and puttin foil on will be a nightmare!
I do have a 8800 that was run over my a van somewhere, I'll try the ribbon from that to see if that one still works, if not... i'll pay a visit to www.cnn.cn and get one, anyone know how long delivery would be?
Cheers
