In the past three days my phone has started doing something very weird - It'll go from 4-5 bars on Cingular to none, to Emergency Calls Only when moving no more than 10 feet... I've noticed the same thing happen while I'm driving and while I can see how it can happen when moving from one tower to another, I've noticed that a lot more of the time my phone is stuck in the dreaded "Emergency Calls Only" screen than it used to in the past. Has anyone else experience anything similar on the Cingular network using a non-850mhz phone? I'm thinking that my phone needs to go in for repair, but if the issue is the service provider, I'm kinda screwed

@REO - I appreciate the link, however I've been using a NON 850mhz phone on Cingular for over a year now (since February 2005), so the supposed '3 month test' does not apply to me in this case. I have used a Moto E1000 until September 2005 and since then the K750, both phones are lacking the 850mhz frequency and both phones have worked with some limitations depending where I am and I have learned to live with those limitations. What I was curios is to find out if other users who're lacking 850mhz on the Cingular network have noticed similar behavior out of their phones, during the last couple of weeks. I'm currently forced to use an old T616 which seems to get good reception, but that's about all it's good for . My dad's using a T610 (on Cingular again) and it has spotty coverage, but I can't judge his experience to determine how it has been in the past 6 months vs in the past 2 weeks since he uses it so seldom, and mostly for inbound calls...

The signal might varie where you are...

I live in California and i seem to have good reception. I have usually have 2-3-4-5 bars and sometimes 1 or none! But, it doesn't stay for that long. I have a Sony Ericsson K750i on T-Mobile. Sometimes it has 2 bars and the reception is very clear! Not bad for a small phone.

Do you live in a small town? My phone was like that (having low bars), when I first got my Sony Ericsson K750i, but a few months later the reception got higher. I don't know why. Maybe, because it got use to it.

Thanks, KLG2992- Kevin

Again, I live in a large metropolitan area where according to Cingular's map of network coverage I should have 1900mhz, and HAVE been getting decent (if not great) reception for the past year and 3 months. This whole thing is a recent phenomenon, and the more I look into it, the more I suspect that it is phone related rather than network so I'm shipping my phone off to get it serviced...

I was curious to find if anyone else has had an unexplained drop in coverage using their K750 on Cingular in the states?

PS I'm hoping very much that Cingular will pick up the K790a so that I can finally use the phone I like with full network coverage

When you go places, can you see a difference in your signal?

Is there a place where your bars are blue?

I can be standing in one place and have 4 bars and be able to place a call, then turn around, walk 3 steps and the phone will go to "Emergency Calls Only" (with 4 bars mind you!) and I'm unable to make or receive phone calls...

I had the same problem with K750i on Cingular. I used to have Z520a, and it worked perfectly in my apartment. I recently flashed my phone to W800, and it solved this exact problem. It also has some cool features, like better pictures, and most importantly, search function for address book.

Maybe more and more 1900 Cingulars are being sold to T-Mobile?

Also, if you have 64K SIM, it is prefers on Cingular 850 Network?

I'm currently in the bay area (SF) on a business trip, and am finding reception much better than currently in Dallas. And no - I don't have a 64k SIM, I have about as old as it gets AT&T SIM card (~early 2002)
