OK ppl, i've been reading the SE replies for everyone who claims the hissing bug in their WALKMAN BRANDED phones. I don't know exactly how law works in US, but I've got an idea.
Here in Brazil we have the Consumer Protection Code law, which can be used for this problem.
If you buy a Walkman phone, you surelly are seeking for music capabilities and functionatility, that's one of the phones features.
If SE let you update through SEUS means that you're getting an updated firmware, not adding bugs to your phone or prejudicating its features (mp3 player).
So if SE can't fix it, you can ask for a refound because it's their obligation to offer a working product, it's in the law!!!
I'm thinking in getting some ppl here to impetrate an shared action asking for a solution for this (this means, SE FIX IT or REFOUND ME). If you guys try to make the same in US, then maybe SE will realize that we are not clowns and want to have a working phone WITH A WORKING MP3 PLAYER without poor quality!
That's just a tought coz i've got enough of those SE replies to our problem

Problem is that I don't want a refund. I want it fixed. SE fools people when they brand the phone with the 'Walkman' logo. Sure, the sound is good, but the hissing makes this phone anything but a 'Walkman'!

I know, that is want I want too. But if we ask SE to fix it and they laugh on our faces, the only way we have to make them fix it for real is suing them. What do you think they would prefer? Fix a firmware problem or loose lot of more money having to refund their phone users?

I could be wrong here, but I seem to recall something being mentioned about a hissing problem on an American mobile forum and the upshot of it was SE apparently said there wouldn't be a fix for it. As I said I could be wrong about this.

To put it nicely, SE dont care, like most manfactures, once you have the phone, what can they profit from if they fix it?
this then tempts phone users either to never buy SE phones again, or to buy another (upgrade) SE phone, imo k750,w800,w810, its pratically the same phone, marketing ploy..

i dont agree with how you are being treated, but i can see why manfactures arent doing anything. if you feel that strongly, there not that much you can actually do? but money talks, if you feel badly treated by a company, dont throw any more money at them.

by the way if you REALLY want the w800 fixed, you could find the white w810......

I haven't noticed this hissing on my new k750. Perhaps this is hardware related not firmware related?

There is definitely a bug in the W800 firmware in regards to playing mp3 files. They have acknowledged it themselves. Apparently it was a 'noise reduction' feature, ironic isn't it? Doesn't affect the K750 though. Still, SE should make an effort to fix the problem, and they do know it exists.

k750 hasn't got the same mediaplayer as the W800. There is no hissing on a k750!
