Espoo, Finland - Nokia today revealed that the Nokia N80 multimedia computer has been voted the Best Mobile Imaging Device in Europe 2006 by the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA), the largest photo and imaging press association in Europe. The award is an endorsement of the Nokia N80's industry-leading feature set, which makes it one of the most high performance devices currently available in the marketplace.
Commenting on the award, TIPA praised the Nokia N80 as "so much more than just a camera phone." The official comment from the TIPA Awards 2006 jury reads: "the Nokia N80 is a multimedia device with a host of superb functions. It combines a 3 megapixel camera, integrated flash, 20x digital zoom, video and MP3 player into one stylish package. As soon as you switch on, the N80 is ready to shoot. Using a 2GB miniSD card you can store nearly 1000 images at up to 2048x1536 (JPEG up to 16.7 million/24-bit color). Printing your images is easy, too. You can take the images off the miniSD card or connect the N80 to your printer via PictBridge or Bluetooth. The WiFi feature also allows you to send your images to any compatible TV or PC, plus you can edit your images, add text and some special effects." |

Wee even TIPA saw that the N80 is "so much more than just a camera phone." How about this : Connect the N80 via Wifi to your Pc or Internet. And via Upnp to your Hifi or Tv. Then stream any video/audio/mp3 from the net or Pc to your entertainment device ! Imagine watching a movie directly from the net onto your plasma wide screen ! Thanks to the N80 is possible. I will be happy only to listen to my huge music collection while sitting in my preferred room on 2*150w RMS Hifi. greetings from South Africa. Mario |

for 2005 TIPA voted K750....did K750 manage to come out before the deadline for TIPA to give the award?
If that's the reason for K800 be dropped out..... that will be quite pity.... |

The credibility of the TIPA award and other "awards" has been discussed before on several other forums I visit. Many of these products are not even for sale yet. How can you evaluate a product without seeing it in real life? The answer to that is to trust the information you receive from the manufacture. For example battery life and promissed functionality. To me, user feedback is more important than winning an award.
Anyway. Congratulations to N80!

Yeah buddy, while one may question the K750i's winn of last year, certainly this is not the case this year. The N80 is out for almost a month in Europe. If the N92 should have won, then I should have said - no way - the N92 only goes on sale in 6weeks or so. Greetings from South Africa. Mario :D

@laffen
If one has enough determination to be oblivious to such practicalities and to blindly endorse everything a particular manufacturer produces, regardless of whether or not more than a handful of people have even seen one, then anything is possible.
@Mario
Sounds like a cool sound system you have. Guess you can afford it on that nice salary Nokia pay you...

The camera's not the BEST one available. Bit of Nokia bias yet again from the 'judges.'

The Fujifilm FinePix F30 is available in end of May. They have used the same test procedures on this product and the Nokia N80. I will wait for the N80 reviews. |

imo n80 and k8 cannot be compared, 2 total different categories. k8 is a fone for fone, n80 is a business fone.

this ruins the credibility of such a prize...i would understand if they gave the prize to other nokias, like n73, because those are true imaging phones
in other hand, if it was not a "imaging" prize, but a smartphone prize or something similar, than i would understand that n80 would win, because is a kick ass phone - small, beautifull and feature packed - but not in imaging |
