Google have just launched the Code Jam competition to find the best computer programmers in Europe. Entrants will have to crack codes to be in with a chance. The intial round will involve an online competition to win 500 places in the first round. Entrants will then be whittled down to 200 for the second round and the finals will see 50 entrants flown to Dublin to meet with the decision makers for the chance of a job. Prize money also totals around £20,000. Registration is open until 8am (GMT) 23rd May so get cracking.

Google's employment policy has always been nuts, they insist that you must have a post-graduate degree before they'd even consider you for a job as a tea boy!.

Which was fair enough when they first started out, but now they're just copying what everybody else has done already

@Cycovision: One of my old college mates is working with Google now, He is Program Director here in India, handling 'Media and Management'. He gets paid $100k a year, and has been working for only 2 years!

Google make it a point that they hire the best of the best, and they pay that kind of salary too.

Oh yeah, they don't hire muppets!

My mate's a programmer, he applied for a job as a developer at their London offices and they wouldn't even speak to him because he hasn't got a degree.

Thing is, he's been programming for over 15 years and he's worked on some very famous projects but still, not good enough for google!
