O2 definitely can roam in the U.S., but you need a tri- or quad-band phone to be able to do so, as the American GSM networks use different bands.
Which phone are you using? |

Its a quadband phone (either Moto v3 or v3i)
Im sending the phone to my girl in florida, was hoping to send a sim card with it too.
How would she go about topping up the sim? usual method? which ways are there?
Thx

register the sim card for her in the UK. You can top up her phone by going to either a natwest, royal bank of scotland, hsbc, co-operative bank, bank machines. Or you can call o2, and they will put you to an automated service, where you can top up.
Or you can get a swipe card o2 card from any phone shop and most news agents, and top up her phone by registering the swipe card with the phone 1st then sending the phone to her. So each time you want to top her up. hand over swipe card and money and there you go. shes topped up |

Oh its that simple? Cool! I got loads of o2 sim cards as it is so i'll just use one of those...
Thx matey!
Ps,what about the gprs settings etc if she uses a mobile IM with it,like my friends? Will i need to set that up beforehand,o2 settings? cus i dont think she'll know how to set that part up

i dont know if the gprs settings for IM would work in the USA. Yeah you should also check out the rates for international calling etc on pay as you go sim on the www.o2.co.uk website too. |

Actually its more for me calling her (15p a min on Orange) or sms'ing each other but im not sure about the international calling for me as her sim might not get recognized as a US mobile number.. hmmm
I'll call Orange now

Yep,just spoken to Orange and found that if i call her she would have to pay 65p a min roaming charge (if she used an Orange payg sim) damn that sucks!
So i'll tell her to get a US sim like u say, then at least its only 15p a min for me to call her or 19p per sms.
Maybe Skype would be an even better option but im not sure of the charges for calling a mobile in the USA from Skype,i use it for calling her landline which is 1.4p a min,i just aint sure if calling a mobile is the same
Thx for the replies tho guys, cheers

I used my Pay&Go o2 Sim card, using internet on my p910i was free for me.
But texting the UK cost 49p and don't get me started on calls! If I we're you, I'd tell her to walk into a cingular store and pick up a "Go chip" (Pay&Go) I bought one, topped it up $15... and texts from America to UK cost me only 5Cents
