When will you start using built-in 3,5mm SE? |

Recent rumours about the new Nokia N83, http://www.newmobile.nl/eur/en/news.php?news_id=b76b16 , indicates that it will sport a built-in 3,5mm jack, and also the upcoming Motorola ROKR E2 will have this.
Since there is a lot of focus on music in todays cellphones, this is IMHO, a natural step to making it easier for users to use their own headphones without the need of any adapter.
Don't get me wrong, I love my new W810i, but _when_ will SE start using 3,5mm jacks and even perhaps mini-usb connectors, instead of the lousy Fastport contact which sometimes looses connection, with the result of the phone playing the music through the speaker (can result in slightly embarrassing situations).
The W810i together with 3,5mm and mini-usb built-in would indeed be my dreamphone!
Any one got a clue? |

There are no rumours yet on a future Walkman phone, so I guess not. The only reason why manufacturers use fastports for example instead of 3.5mm jacks, is so that the consumers will buy more accessories. Yes I do agree that it's anoying and that SE should start offering some more compettion with the other manufacturers. If the ROKR E2 was a SE phone, with an SE UI and an SE usablity, we'd, I'd love it. QVGA display, SD memory expansion and a 'real' headphone jack.

But we must accept that there are fewer headsets better than 's. If i'm not mistaken, the HPM-70 is a better version of the MDR-EX-71, right? So in addition to just providing a 3.5 jack, SE should make "standard" 3.5 earphones, at the same time maintaining their current standards.

you have to remember that a 3.5mm port will take up more room, some of the small (slim) handsets there is just no room for it.
and people like small handsets.
tbh i dont see a 3.5mm an essential, as if you had it you would still need the fastport connection for other operations. |

And what about microphone? It would be impossible to talk with earphones plugged in? I prefer the mini jack in HPM-70. Because i can have earphones which i want and i have microphone to talk without touching a phone. It's much better solution. |

On the ROKR E2 they have solved this by making the handset recognizing if there is a microphone on the connected headset, by sensing if the plug has two (headphones) or three (headphones + microphone) connections.
And if there isn't any microphone available, the handset activates the regular microphone on the handset.
Pretty smart if you ask me.. |

i quite like the w900's standard 3.5mm adaptor, i actually prefer this to having a 3.5mm on the phone.
Why.. simply as i have a good set of earphones, but how would i take a call, if it was directly attached to the phone? with the adaptor makes it easy. Also with the adaptor it has media player controls...makes life easy when attaching the phone to the car (when changing tracks!) |
