Hi there I am a complete newcomer to modern mobile technology. I have some question about my newly bought Sony Ericsson W800i.. I have signed up with O2 in uk on their tariff that gives me 200min and a 100 texts every month. I have downloaded the setting for there O2 active: "O2 Active (includes GPRS and Media Messaging)
O2 Active, allows you instant access to a variety of ringtones, games, and up to date news, sport and entertainment."
Well i can as well start from an end:
GPRS:
1. How do i know that my GPRS is enabled?
2. When i go to settings>calls>time and costs>data counters I can see that i have in all sessions sent 82430 B and received 277734 B and a total time of 0:18:40. How will i be charged for this?
3. How do i know when im using WAP paying for the time im on, and when im using gprs paying pr data
4. What is the internet services in the menu? is it WAP or GPRS?
5. is there a browser built in the phone? and does that use WAP or GPRS
Can i set a limit for how much i want to use the internet every month > like a blocking when i have used the WAP/GPRS for 10£
6. I have heard that GPRS is cheaper than WAP so can i limit my self to only use GPRS? and if so which features will I then be unable to use
Poker on the mobile:
1. Im hoping to play poker on my mobile provided from pokerroom.com. What will an hour play be charged approximately?
2. How much data would i need to download to run that kind of software for an hour?
2. How sure can i be not to be disconnected? If it is possible to be that at all?
Bluetooth:
1. Can i use bluetooth to connect to the internet via my home network and desktop pc and in that way not be charged by my service provider?
2. Can I use the bluetooth connection in the same manner as if i were wired to the pc?
3. Can I use the bluetooth in my phone to connect my laptop to the internet when im on the go?
Device Settings:
1. What dose the synchronization setting in the connectivity menu means? and what kind of account do i have to setup?
2. How do i get other games than the ones preinstalled? and are they free?
3. How can I setup an email account? And can i set it up to use the pop3 account i already have with my internet provider?
4. As Im danish but living in the UK i would like to have a danish dictionary installed! is that possible?
MMS + WAP:
1. How do i know that these two services are enabled?
2. is MMS very expensive what are the standard rates?
3. Do i get charged for the size of my MMS or the number of them sent?
I know this propably is too much to answer at ones, and im happy if you could just answer some of them! |

i dunno how things are over there, but here, when a carrier picks up a mobile, you can expect them to have all the answers to every question you have. It's like buying a Dell- you call Dell, not Microsoft, for your Windows problems
Good luck |

GPRS/WAP: you'll know that you're utilizing these when you see the little globe icon on the upper left-hand side corner.
BLUETOOTH: if you have bluetooth on your laptop and it has the dial-up networking profile, then yes, you can use your phone as a modem.
BROWSER: yes, there's a built-in browser. i believe you can access it choosing the little phone-and-globe icon in the menu. i use a third-party app called Opera Mini, though. you can go to regular www sites and it compresses the page/data so that it'll only be roughly 10kb per page.

Well i can as well start from an end:
GPRS:
1. How do i know that my GPRS is enabled?
- there is a little blue triagle thing over your signal bars. if that is there, you have GPRS coverage, and it should work. go to your menu, and to the net, and it should let you on.
2. When i go to settings>calls>time and costs>data counters I can see that i have in all sessions sent 82430 B and received 277734 B and a total time of 0:18:40. How will i be charged for this?
- it depends on your plan. if you have unlimited GPRS, you wont be charged. ask your operator for more about this if you dont have unlimited.
3. How do i know when im using WAP paying for the time im on, and when im using gprs paying pr data
- wap and gprs are the same thing (kind of, hard to explain the difference), but if you have unlimited gprs, again, you wont be charged. wap will be charged under gprs.
4. What is the internet services in the menu? is it WAP or GPRS?
its usually the first icon in the menu. my above awnser awnsered this pretty much.
5. is there a browser built in the phone? and does that use WAP or GPRS
Can i set a limit for how much i want to use the internet every month > like a blocking when i have used the WAP/GPRS for 10£
yes, a browser is built in. it is gprs/wap. (IF IM WRONG ABOUT THIS GPRS/WAP THING, SOMEONE TELL ME, BUT I DONT THINK I AM. sorry, i wasnt yelling, i jsut wanted people to see that. but about the setting a limit, i dont think you can but that would be a great feature.
6. I have heard that GPRS is cheaper than WAP so can i limit my self to only use GPRS? and if so which features will I then be unable to use
i dont know. now the wap/gprs thing is confusing me haha. sorry
Poker on the mobile: - all these, i dont know im sorry.
1. Im hoping to play poker on my mobile provided from pokerroom.com. What will an hour play be charged approximately?
2. How much data would i need to download to run that kind of software for an hour?
2. How sure can i be not to be disconnected? If it is possible to be that at all?
Bluetooth:
1. Can i use bluetooth to connect to the internet via my home network and desktop pc and in that way not be charged by my service provider?
some people say there is a way, but i have never done it. someone else will awnser this one too.
2. Can I use the bluetooth connection in the same manner as if i were wired to the pc?
for some things yes. you can send SMS, make calls, send pictures and stuff to your phone via BT (you must have a BT dongle. by the way, BT means bluetooth if you didnt catch it.) i would download a little program called Floats Mobile Agent. a simple google search will reveal the link. (or someone post it please.)
3. Can I use the bluetooth in my phone to connect my laptop to the internet when im on the go?
do what??
Device Settings:
1. What dose the synchronization setting in the connectivity menu means? and what kind of account do i have to setup?
you have to download the sodtware. it will sync your phone and computer. just to back up your phone info. no additional account is needed.
2. How do i get other games than the ones preinstalled? and are they free?
some are free, some are not. i believe you can download some from the sony ericsson site. and just search for games on google. im sure many people can post links here. also, try a search here on esato for "w800i games" (or whatever phone you said you had )
3. How can I setup an email account? And can i set it up to use the pop3 account i already have with my internet provider?
4. As Im danish but living in the UK i would like to have a danish dictionary installed! is that possible?
um... im not sure. idk if one is available. anyone??
MMS + WAP:
1. How do i know that these two services are enabled?try to send a MMS, if it works. it is enabled. haha
2. is MMS very expensive what are the standard rates?
3. Do i get charged for the size of my MMS or the number of them sent? for the number sent. but i am ont familiar with O2, so someone else will have to help you with this.
I know this propably is too much to answer at ones, and im happy if you could just answer some of them!
