i've had this for absolutley ages and i know some others do to. its the problem on esato where you want to attach a pic or now submit to the new camera pics gallery, but even if the picture you try to upload is JPEG format, it still says:

Not the correct image file. Please upload JPEG files only!
Try again

please can someone fix it, its a real let down. sorry if this has been complained/talked about before, but since nothing has been done i'm just getting so annoyed, i've had to put up with it for months...

fix fix fix

all I can add is that jcwhite had a similar thread where he discovered that he could upload the problematic images using a browser other than internet explorer, such as firefox so his conclusion was that it was internet explorer at fault

not sure if that help much

What file extension are you using on your JPEG files?

I've noticed it sometimes won't accept .jpeg extensions but will accept .jpg

Try it, it may help...

how come not all seem to have the fault then? i used to be able to upload pictures fine, that was months ago, up till now i can't... also this only happens on esato, its not a problem that occurs elsewhere?

I don't know how you change the file extension on a PC, on a Mac you just rename the file wherever it is saved. Doesn't that work in Windows?

But, yes, the file itself won't change - just the name. However, it depends how clever the programming code is that checks what you are uploading. Stupid PHP scripts just check the file extension is .jpg. Clever scripts actually check the contents of the file for the unique properties of the JPEG file structure.

If Esato's PHP script just looks for a .jpg extension then it won't accept anything else, even though .jpeg or files without any extension could be perfectly valid JPEG image files.

in testing this I have successfully uploaded an image renamed from file type .jpg to .jpeg and also renamed to .abc suggesting that the content is being checked rather than the file type

I just tested with a 5megapixel image (from my digital camera) of around 2.4mb in size and that gave the error being reported here

so maybe the image size is part (or all) of the issue?
