W810 dismantled |

Has anyone got shots of a dismantled W810. Some people are claiming better build quality which I find a bit hard to take given that the middle section or main body appears to be identical. I suspect so much more is also carried over. I'd be keen to see if the insides are that much different. In particular I'd be keen to see what's beneath the Dpad. I would not be one bit surprised to find the same mechanism as that on the W800/k750 joysticks. I can't see why SE would go to all the effort to design a new mechanism when they could achieve the same result with the old. |

i have not stripped mine yet as my battery covver is wedged on. i am waiting for a replacement back housing to arrive before i rip the cover off.
however, the "joystick" mechanism is not really new. it is the same as used in the w550 and s700/w900 phones.
from day one with the t610's, sony ericsson joysticks are notorious for failing. they do not seem to suffer from dust or mechanical problems, they just plain stop working.
add the fact that a t610 joystick will work on a w800, showing the fact that SE have made no effort to improve the design over the years...
i for one am glad to see the joystick mising from my new phone, as i know i will not have to change it in a few months like i did with my k750.. |

Someone opened it up here... http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=3220
And I bought a W810i housing from CNN.CN and modded it to go with the front and back of the W800i for my K750i/W800i hybrid.

Well there you go. My suspicions are totally wrong. Quite clearly there is no joystick - just an extension of keypad that sits under the Dpad. |
