W810i Middle chassis on W800i flashed K750i project. |

There has been a debate about fitting a w810i middle chassis on to a W800i. I've decided to try it out for myself and have found out it will fit... with slight modifications of course. The face plate of the w800i will fit the black middle chassis perfectly as all the mounting points are the same, however I cannot say the same for the back.
Some of the mounting points at the back do not match but that can easily be overcome by slight modifications. Also the camera switch does not have a mounting point so I've glued a piece of plastic I cut out, to the spot for it to be mounted. This is still a work in progress but it's coming along pretty nicely.
I've done and fitted everything already but cnn.cn forgot to send me the black buttons so I'm still waiting for them. In the mean time, here is a few shots of my progress...

Should I go with the White keypad LED's from the K750i or the Orange one's from the W800i? |

think the white will be best.
One question.
Can you take the w810 middle and back covers and use it with the k750i front on a k750i and left the camera switch open? |

Technically, it's possible. But the back part of the W810i housing from cnn.cn doesn't have the grill to protect the speaker and there is also no protection for your camera lens. |

this will not work, simply due to the w800 has a trigger with activates the camera mode when lens are open... unless changing the whole of the inside which means the front keypad aswell... and the buttons etc....

I beg to differ. A few users have had their camera trigger switch damaged and they simply just kept the switch in place so it stays open all the time. To activate the camera, you just hold on to the camera button like the w810i.
Here is an example. http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=120410

I thought I'd post some quick pics of what I did...
I found out that the back clips don't line up.
So, I shaved it off with a blade...
Before After
Next I measured the height of where the camera trigger switch should be and got a plastic stuck in that position so the camera trigger switch can be mounted there. It looks like that because i got lazy to spray it and used a marker to paint it black. I'm thinking no one will see it.
Next, the mounting point on the middle chassis also needed to be modified slightly. I needed to make a small trench for the W800i chassis. I used a blade and very tiny screwdrivers. It's abit untidy but no one will see it.
Then I fitted everything in place but found out that the camera lens cover cannot close properly. I found out that this was in it's way. So I shaved it down abit with a blade.
And now it fit's like a charm.
I'm just waiting for CNN.CN to send me the black buttons as Dennis Tam forgot to send mine. I should get it in a weeks time and put on the new housing. I've already tested it and it fits and works like a charm.
Cheers!

If you want to fit a W810i front on to a W800i middle chassis, you have to trim off one of the clips on the top as it's slightly different too. But if it's the other way around, (W800i front on to W810i chassis)
no modifications needed.

Well done, the white led's really look better on it than the orange that the w800i had. |

The other way around? As in W810 front and back with a W800 chassis?
It shouldn't be a problem. With slight mods, they should fit. |
