The Metro a free newspaper that is distributed in London ran an article in which they said only a handful of phones supported full internet access. I emailed them saying that this basically wasn't true and Opera Mini allowed you full access of the internet, with a large selection of phones. The guy who wrote the article has replied saying this:

"Yes, the T-Mobile web'n'walk uses Opera. This is the first commercial deal Opera has signed with a phone company. Although users have been able to download Opera Mini, that depends on a remote server redrawing web pages rather than giving you direct access to sites, which also slows things down".

Is this rubbish? I was going to reply saying that Opera Mini is just basically a web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox and if what he were saying was the case we'd only be able to surf a small selection of web pages that thad been processed into the remote server.

Opera mini actually processes the page you want to see (any page) on its own servers and then sends them to your phone. It strikes me how they can do that for free but not really my concern.

Almost any site is vieweable after their processing, but there are important exceptions like a lot of java and flash sites or pages.

Is this the case with other web browsers, for example Internet Explorer?

No, only Opera mini.

Maybe other special wap-browsers.
