hi,
ive just got myself a vodafone branded w900i. Any of you Australian members know of any places that unbrand phones? preferably in Victoria but still let me know of any interstate.

And one question for everyone:
Does any one know where i can buy housings/covers for them or are they not available yet???

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I'm not certain whether it is available yet or not, but DaVinci is probably best. Reflash from the comfort of your own erganomic office chair! And you can use the cable that came with it.

same here. got both w900 and the w810 from optus. Got it flashed by davinci on the same day. Worked fine. Just don't tick the increase sms box, cause it will stop the w810 to save any messages.

hope this helped

thanks for your replies guys.
But i dont really understand how to use Davinci yet lol.
Tendy, how much did it cost you in AUD$ to perform the debranding?
How do i use this Davinci, have looked at it but as i said i dont fully understand it yet. Some of the terms used i dont not understand lol. So if someone can explain to me 'simply' the main points. that would be great.
Thanks again

about AUD$ 18 it cost me to perform the debranding (10 euro) if you buy one log file. cheaper if you buy more.

Yes, Davinci can be a bit confusing to start with. A few pointers:
- download the client file from the website
- buy a log file using pay pal.
- they will issue a user name and password for you.
- use the client to download the firmware for your phone.

Alternatively you can bring it to a mobile phone repair shop. they do this sort of things ( at least in Sydney) but you have to ring a couple of places as some of they have no idea at all

All the best, mate.

tendy,
Do you mean authorised SE repair centres? Or just phone repair shops.
If so please let me know the what sort of shops do this(by this i mean are they asian stores or things like them) And do you have any of their names, and do you know if they debrand w900i yet? My brother lives in Sydney so i can send it up to him.

ads1107,
not the authorised SE centers. they most likely would not do it, unless you know a technician who works there. those repair center would be like the asians one i suppose. i tried a couple, but they don't have the firmware yet, so i won't be able to give you the names.

i would rather use da vinci and save time and again you can do it in the comfort of your own desk.

@ads1107,

I'm in the process of de-branding my own w810i (from optus), I'll try to take a few notes down and let you know how that went!

Cheers!

Hey guys,

I've been using my phone ever since then with nothing to report (phone works great!) but I've had quite a few emails... so there we go;

To get started you need...

  1. the 15.94 client from " target="_blank">http://davinciteam.com/client-1594.zip

  2. the USB Flash Drivers at " target="_blank">http://davinciteam.com/USBFlash.zip

  3. the MAIN.dvt + FS.dvt files which you can either download from the client, or here; " target="_blank">ftp://ftp.seuniverse.com/sonyericsson_files/

  4. 1 davinciteam.com credit

Which files did I get?

ftp://ftp.seuniverse.com/sony[....]10_R4CE012_MAIN_GENERIC_HN.DVT
ftp://ftp.seuniverse.com/sony[....]_files/W810_R4CE012_FS_EU2.DVT
The main file is the generic, original sonyericsson and the europe 2 has english, french and german languages making the phone easy to sell if I ever do!

I left the CDA to the same value (CDA102494/19) because changing the CDA info might disable the SonyEricsson Update Service. You will have to enter the cda value manualy.

Before you start

  1. Your phone is charged (recommended 80%+)

  2. install the USB flash drive; unplug usb, power off the phone, hold the C key and plug the usb cable... windows will detect a new peripheral and make sure you point the driver installation wizard to the two files from the USBFlash.zip.

  3. test your installation; power off the phone, launch the client, select Port Setting DCU60 at 115200 bauds and click Read CID/Test Cable, Hold the C and plug the USB.. you should see something like;

    Client Version 15.94
    **** READING CID STARTED ****
    Turn off the phone.
    Hold "C" button and plug USB cable.
    Phone attached!
    Detected SonyEricsson: K750/D750/W800/W550/Z520/Z530.
    CsLoader Accepted Ok!
    Status Ok, OTP Close, CID49, PAF1
    IMEI: 359061-00-104403
    Phone CID 49, Color RED
    You must use CID49 Flash Files For this phone!
    Press button - "Get Files From Web" and download free firmware
    Execution Time - 00:00:06
    Done!

  4. to make sure your credit is ok + server is up, try the Account Details -> Info and -> Server Status Button

now... If you got to this point easily... the following is as simple!

to flash/unbrand the phone;

  1. poweroff the phone, disconnect cable and launch the client

  2. in the client, select the following options; Port Settings: DCU60, 115200, RTS and DTR ticked, Select the Main file from your local drive, same for the FS and type in the CDA value. Tick the finalization box. If you want some options, tick them (I personnally enabled the play now, disabled the SMS inbox increase), the Fast CDA change and CID ignoring shoud NOT be ticked.

  3. hit flash and follow the instructions on screen (the only thing you'll have to to is Hold the C key and connect the phone... and keep holding the C key until the process is completed.

  4. then disconnect the phone, and power it up... the first boot takes a few sec then the initial customization screen will appear!

Enjoy, that's a great phone, lacking only in 3G + camera lense cover!

R.

There are no official housings available as far as I know.
