shoei:

Your save picture option is greyed out cause AT&T sucks. They did this on purpose so that they can charge you for backgrounds in addition to what you're paying for data (from what I've read).

In general they suck, infact they're easily arguable the worst gsm carrier in the US. For a number of reasons including:

* Not providing unlock codes (even after your contract expired, you need to travel outside the US etc)
* Their sms is slow, international sms doesn't work
* They disable the save picture functionality so they can charge you for something that should be free.
* Their network should be called a notwork, cause it doesn't in most places.
* No MMS
* Monthly service fee to be able to dial international

The list could go on and on and on, but for many people disabling the save picture option is prolly gonna do it! Remember they're already making money off of selling you data access, now they want you to pay them to be able to use them additionally to be able to download pics - that is ontop of whatever you pay for kb!

So yeah ATT sucks - and should be avoided like the plague. Their true colors are showing brighter everyday, and despite how many employees they have on this forum if their attitudes don't change I'm sure (hope!) they'll be the first GSM carrier to go Chapter 11.

If you want your phone to be YOUR PHONE and you want to take full advantage of it you need to do two things:
1) Unlock it and drop att
2) Flash a new att free firmware

Hey Highrez,

I don't what you have against AT&T but you need to get your facts straight. Now, I realize that you are a big T-Mobile fan but let me clear- up some of your BS. Lets start with SMS, SMS with anyc carrier is not perfect but by no means is the SMS by AT&T slow. In fact, AT&T was the first carrier to offer SMS in theis country. AT&T was also the 1st US carrier to offer Inter-carrier SMS. Some Carriers even have the nerve to charge .02 for incoming SMS. AT&T is not one of those carriers.

MMS for AT&T is almost here so stop crying about MMS, every time you post in here you cry about MMS, T-Mobile doesn't even offer real MMS, they offer a HYBRID version of MMS so please shut up about MMS. Besides the T68i, no other phone maker has been ready to offer AT&T MMS capable phones. But like I said,MMS is just around the corner so get ready.

Now, lets move on to International calling. With AT&T you have 2 choices as to how you want to pay for it. The 1st choice is a basic feature that has "NO MONTHLY SERVICE FEE" but the rates are higher or you can get the Discounted option which is 5.99 a month but you will get discounted INT dialing rates. Unless you have a truckload of family overseas that you must call everyday who really cars about international calling.

And now for unlocking the phones. Why should they unlock the phones? When you buy a t68i from AT&T the retail price now is $149.99 but the actual cost is $305.00 per unit that AT&T pays SE.That means that AT&T loses $155.00 per phone just to get you under contract and it's the same with all carriers. On average it costs a carrier $360 and $400 to sign up a new customer after you figure in the $$ lost on selling the phone, commision paid, and advertising. Now you want them you unlock the phone so you can use it on another carrier. Where is the return on the initial investment for any carrier. Now I know that Tmobile does provide you with the unlock codes, but in my area they charge alot to unlock them. Now if it so damn important for you to have an unlocked phone because you're Mr. Bigshot and travel to Europe every other day and use a pre-paid SIM then buy the unlocked phone from the manufactr directly and lets see how much they will charge you. I'll bet you that you will pay through the ass for it and because you bought outside you carrier some functions will not work because the phone itself is not configured for that carrier such as data service. So stop giving people bad information when you yourself haven't a clue about what you are talking about. Just spare us your BULLSHIT

I'll try to address everything you've said in the same order.

Let me start out with the I was an att customer for a long time disclaimer. My t68 was an upgrade to my 6162 that I got with a year contract with att. . . I felt they were the BEST carrier for quite a while, but I no longer believe they are. Anyways, back to addressing the issues.

MMS. My point is not invalid. They don't offer MMS yet and MMS is a big selling point of the T68. I don't understand what you mean by T-Mobile offer hybrid mms. What they don't have a grown up MMSC?

International Calling. I was not offered a free international calling plan when I spoke to an ATT rep - I payed a monthly rate and I payed a lot. Here I'll take your word for it and stand corrected because I haven't checked into it reciently.

Unlocking phones. Why? Because their competitors do it. Plain and simple. If you want to be the best carrier you will do the things that make your customers happy. Best carrier is not the most profitable carrier, it is the carrier that has the happiest customer base. I'd been with ATT since I got my original 6162 paying $100/mo + whatever for international dialing, and usually I didn't scratch all my minutes. I've given ATT plenty of money. The LEAST they can do for a customer that had a track record like that was unlock my phone so I could use when out of country. I understand att has international roaming agreements, but they aren't in place everywhere. More importantly, their competitor would have provided the code.

But really, shoei's problem was not being able to save a picture - and honestly can you say there is any execuse for what they did to him and others who are purchasing newer t68's? What, just so they can charge extra to download backgrounds? Do they put a disclaimer on their newer t68's - "warning we crippled your phone so we can charge you more." Thats like your isp charging you for you connection, and then making it so the only pages you can browse are theirs and you have to pay them per page! And all backs to this: being the best carrier means having happy customers. I don't think many people will be happy knowing att crippled their equiptment just so they can charge their customers more.

And then the rep telling me they had as good if not better coverage with their gsm network in washington state was just wrong.

Like I said I could have gone on and on and on. Do you really want me to? I don't work for a carrier - do you?
