Sorry if I offended you.
Nothing wrong with a poor mans W800 concidering the price and the features it will have (it will be very competitive). Think W800 will be out of the loop (not manufactured anymore) very soon.

I expect the price difference to be not that great either. At most, W700 would be just $30 cheaper.

What I have seen (don't ask where) it will be around 100 USD cheaper than W800 today. Lets wait and see. |

I don't think sonyericsson needed to change the name of this phone, since its so identical to the w800. At least some physical changes apart from just a housing change would have been more refreshing. |

I agree with those who think this phone should've been more like the K700 or heck the K610 for the matter just not the W800. And the Titanium color isn't that great IMHO.
Now if there were a phone I'd eventually like to see rereleased would be the W550 with 512MB and a 2MP camera, and since it has removable covers nobody could really complain.

The autofocus left out, would that be the only change to the camera? It must be like the k600 camera then? |

I thought the poorman's version of it is the D750i? Isn't that the same as the W800 and now the W700 expcept the face? |

I really thought this was some sort of a late april fool's joke. they couldve just opened the D750 to the mainstream instead of coming up with this (with new firmware improvements introduced in the W550/W600)
i mean, is there really that big a market for walkman phones out there?!?
one interesting angle though, if they do introduce FW improvements in this model (background sms sending/revamped MMS profile system/copy and paste in the editor/etc), and it appears that this is hardware-wise identical to K750/W800, theoretically it would be possible to reflash K750s/W800s with this new firmware and get those improvements as well. that'd be svelte
then again, wouldnt it have been easier to have just released the D750 to the mainstream and make the FW update available (as was the case with T68 > T68m/T68i, or via SEUS) |

I personally thought thay would have been better off just keeping the W800i and adding the csae from the W700i as an optional colour. This strategy has worked wll for Motorola with the V3.

Agree.
If they wanted more marketshare, they could have release w800 in a different colour in a basic package with 256 Megs, or no MemStick at all to lower the price, and to sell more.
Simply dunno why they should fabricate another name.

Well, I don't know if I'd buy the W700 (having a W800i), but I'd certainly like the fascias (and I'm sure I'm not theonly one).

I'm a bit dissapointed by this release. I payed a good deal of money to have a good phone that not everyone has. Now SE brings out a phone that has exactly the same looks. (I know the colours are different) So soon a lot of people will have this phone and te W800i will no longer have that exclusive look. |

I dont think this is a great move.. just a difference in color and they gave it a new model number?
What is SE trying to do?
This move is worse than the nokia's changing model numbers.
It would have been much better if it would have been a limited edition.
And the phone would look more lovely in a shiny coat of deep burgundy color.
Oh and BTW, the color reminds me of cow dung
