I thought for a while what the point of this phone was (take a look at the 'smooth white' version and it looks even more like the W800i).
If they're clever, they'll now withdraw the W800i from sale - to allow the W810i to go through the regular channels. The W700i can then be sold on prepay.
I might be wrong (after all, they might be hoping the gold version will sell for a premium!) but this would make some sense out of an otherwise odd decision.
Will Sony Ericsson now be launching random phones on random days?

yea its kinda ridiculous... but quite pampering.. since others are in quams over the orange-white combination of W800, here comes W700 in titanium gold.. hope it stand by the name and doesnt creak most of the time... well its kinda refreshing on the otherhand.
i wonder how it differs from W800.. maybe theyve just created some bunch of titanium gold casings and name it as W700. sheeesh... i will still go for K790/800.
oh btw, the price of K750 in my place dropped tremendously... black market prices went down to $260 from $435 (upon realease). talking about mad rush sale.
cheers yall!

Smooth white W700 is IDENTICAL to W800 in appearance.
@jmcomms, makes sense. SE is phasing W800 out (since it's almost too similar to W810) and downgrade it to W700 (by including MSPD of less memory and removing autofocus?). |

Too bad it isn't the W800 functionality in an evolution of the K700 design. |

It's what they need to do, but I think they could have made some attempt to change the design of the W700i. Still, at least it enabled them to use the same 3D image model and change the colour!!
I think now they're up to EIGHT Walkman phones, they should look to calm down a bit. It may put some people off buying one, fearing it will be replaced in a matter of months. Even though each phone is good, and another model doesn't change that, there are enough people that can't be seen with an old model and will be put off entirely.

According to Jan Wäreby at SE (interview in www.mobile.se), the price for W700 will be lower than the price for W800 today. So yes, its a poor mans W800. |

hey hey hey! watch yer mouth! kidding
yea it can be said as a poormans W800, but look at it.. isnt it elegant? so how can you say that its from a poorman... well its prolly the add-ons that makes it cheaper than W800.. (since it was bundled with a 512MB MS DUO Pro), this one comes with a 256MB MSD Pro. so its quite reasonably logical.
like i said.. they prolly add sumthin in it... and toss sumthings out.
and viola!!!! W700. apparently without the hisss....
oh i just wish.. please please please!

well i think the w700 is targeted for low income earners. there are millions of people out there (worldwide i mean) who desire to have a w800 but are restricted with its cost.
for SE to gain a good number of the global market share, they have to cater for all class of income earners.
The similar design is to give low income earners the feel and look of a w800; "yea i can't own a w800 but with a w700, i feel close".
I think SE is planning to grab a good number in the global market share this year. Keep the varieties coming SE! |

Looking at the differences in specs between the two phones (right now it seems just a 256 MB difference in external memory), I expect the price difference to be not that great either. At most, W700 would be just $30 cheaper. |

One thing I used to admire about SE was that each model had its own unique design:
• t68i (the arctic blue color and upper part made it distinguishable from the t68m)
• t610
• t630
• t230
• K700
• P800
The t230, in particular, proved that even an entry/mid-level phone can become a classic if given a unique, sleek design.
SE had a chance to make the W800 a cult model, with love-it-or-hate-it looks. It had personality. Now the W700 has diluted the legend.
K508, T290, W700. It's all about market shares. |
