I was informed this weekend by a guy in The Link in Cambridge this weekend (05-Oct-02) that MMS wont be cross network until O2 launch there MMS service as they hold the 'key' to MMS compatability!

Haha! There isn't any cross-network MMS at the moment because of a number of reasons such as cross charging agreements not being defined and compatibility with MMS servers (this being a relatively new product).

As for O2 holding the 'key'! Are they going to try and go to court to suggest they hold the patents to MMS, like they tried with hyperlinks?

O2 was still part of BT when the court case was initiated last year - besides, if it looks like BT and most of the workforce come from BT, I'd call it BT!!

British Telecom, Genie, O2 aside.

Can you explain what this supposed 'key' to MMS compatibility is, that O2 is said to hold?

Or do you (like me) think it's just the fact that the operators haven't got their cross network charging sorted out yet?
