Hi, when i connect my W900i to my iMac G5 running OS X 10.4.5 via the usb cable supplied with it, it does not mount as a usb mass storage device, any ideas why this is? Any help will be much appreciated, thanks.

that's because the W900 is not a mass storage device. you must install the software drivers for it to be detected.

I know the W900i is not a mass storage device but the 2 GB memory stick in it is. And I read that you don't have to install any drivers for OS X.

Actually the W900i IS a mass storage device... you should be able to access both the memory stick AND the internal memory without installing any drivers!

When you hook up the phone you should get a prompt on the phone's screen if you want to use it in phone mode or storage mode.

I'm not sure that it works on Vodafone-branded W900's though.

I'm sorry, I just realised that you're using a MAC, I have no idea if this works on OSX.

/s.

I have a W900i and it works great with my Powerbook. I get an option to use it as a phone or a mass storage device as soon as I plug in the thing to the usb. Select option 2 and boom you'll see both the phone's memory and the card both mounted up there.

I have two options when i plug it in, the first says 'File transfer' and the second says 'Phone mode'. I have tried both of these and neither work

Yeah the File Transfer one. I select that and phone sort of restarts and brings itself into an ipod like do not disconnect cable mode. From there on, the things mounted on the desktop - both the inbuilt memory and the card. Whats your firmware version? Have you installed all software updates?

I was in a similar situation with my PowerBook G4 OS X 10.3.9, until I put a Memory Stick in the w900i. Now I still get the dialogue box "You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OS X can read. To continue with the disk inserted, click Ignore" BUT the Memory Stick DOES show up as a mounted device called NO NAME. The phone itself does NOT show up. This is what a Sony Ericsson phone support person told me would happen, i.e. Mac would recognise Mem Stick but not phone.

I don't know how Macboy gets to access his internal memory from his Mac!

So does this mean that I am the only person who has experienced this problem then? Anyone!?

It works like a charm for me, although it does show No name, but still mounts up the internal and the memory card both, with all individual folders in them.

There seems to be something I've mistakely done correct or something that you've probably missed.

Lets see -

- All OSX updates including the firmware ones.
- Phone battery charged
- Not sure about phone firmware, but mine's still on the one it came in when I bought it

One thing I can think of is try re-setting the phone settings to its original ones again. Like do a master reset and then once you connect the USB cable, select the File transfer FIRST. Do not do the Phone mode as thats pretty much only for Windows users, so that might be confusing the mac.

I cant seem to think of anything else. Let me know how it goes!
