HI guys, im from the uk and should be getting my w900i, unfortunatly its a vodafone one, so its gonna branded to hell and locked to them. Is there anyway of unlocking it so I can put my orange sim in... or is this a hopeless matter! I have found a site on the net http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/Unlocking/debrand.htm#w900i
who say they do it and unlock it but they are a bit rubbish at replying. I do really like this mob but i worried it may have to go straight back on ebay if i cant use my orange sim in it!
can any1 help?
thanks in advance!  |

If you take it into a voda shop they will check your imei number and can then give you the unlock code for your phone which they get from their pos terminal. However, they my charge you £20 for this service. On the bright side, you simply punch the code in and away you go.
I did this with my voda W900i, and am now using my Orange sim card in it without problem.
Hope this helps! |

No problem, they are just checking the imei number to make sure its not a stolen phone. |

i unlocked my old V800 remotely over the internet. Cant remember what site, but it cost me about £5 instead of Vodafone charges. If you look around, there might be a few sites that do this for the W900.. you just type the IMEI, pay up and they give you the unlock codes either by email, or straight away on the site if i remember rightly. I also once phoned Vodafone customer services to do this to a phone, and they gave me the code over the phone and said the charges would come off my bill, but never did Good Luck! |

u do know that vodafone branded phones do NOT allow you to play mp3's unless you have purchased them from vodafone live. Its a piss take seeing as its a walkman phone.

@procterdc
I could play my own mp3s on my Vodafone branded W900. I still got it unbranded though.

Unbranding doesn't unlock the handset, it just removes the exisiting firmware. Unlocking a handset will allow it to accept SIM cards from different networks.

Just like unlocking, won't allow you to use other profiles (at least with Voda) and all features that the phone is capable of (might be limited).
Unbranding will make it as powerful as it can be.

@Krubach
Unbranding a Vodafone W900 doesn't add functionality in all areas. One does gain certain things, but one also loses the ability to turn the 3G component of the W900 off.
Having said that I am still glad that I unbranded my W900.
